Are the square drive robertson fasteners popular there?  I've a few bit sets that came with those, I've never used one.

They are very popular here, and are a Canadian invention.  You don't see them too much outside of Canada, although as I understand it they are common in the northern US where they are referred to as deck screws.

Speaking of uncommon, today's socket is a 7/32, which I am not sure I have ever used, but it is also the second last socket for this set!

Checking in from PA. I'd say I see them pretty often in "permanent" construction that people don't intend to be taken apart by consumers. Furniture, bathroom fixtures, etc.

We have Robertson bits here as well in the Southern US  some use them for deck building but the more popular option is the T25 star/torq bit  once you get a Robertson bit in correctly and seated the square bit grabs really well and rarely strips like some other fasteners I have used  :tu: :D

If you use the right size Robertson bit there is really no way it will strip.

However, if you put a smaller bit in you'll probably ruin the driver and/or screw.

I can think of only one application where I've seen 7/32 fasteners: aircraft. Kind of an oddball addition!

Interesting that you should say that as I am flying home for the holidays today.  I hadn't planned on bringing the set with me, but now I'm wondering if I should!  :D

This morning's addition is a few more hex bits!

This is really getting to be a well thought out set.  I kind of expected a half assed novelty set if I'm honest, especially for the price.  this was only $30 CDN ($20 ish US) and I feel like it was well worth every penny, assuming the first time it gets used it doesn't burst into flames or something.

That was indeed a good price. But the bolded bit begs the question: what is Mastercraft's warranty/replacement policy?

Lifetime warranty on hand tools, I think 1 year on power tools.

I have lots of Mastercraft tools and some are very good.  Some, not so much.  The hand tools tend to be better overall, so I expect great things from this set.

I could make so many jokes about today's addition from the Mastercraft Advent Calendar, or I could quote some rap lyrics, as there seems to be a lot of things assembled in da hood with 9mm bolts given how much they discuss it.  Also, I think they are into some serious gardening because they often refer to having a lot of hoes.

But I am digressing a little again- today's addition is a 9mm socket, and rounds out (no pun intended) the sockets included in this kit!  I have a full set, largely because the 10mm hasn't run away yet!

I'm going to guess more screwdriver bits?  There is still space for maybe two more three packs of screwdrivers?

Just a guess based on the space left in the box.

I was right- sort of!

But I was wrong.  I figured there would be another set of three screwdriver bits each, today and tomorrow, but apparently the folks at Mastercraft thought that would be too obvious, and they gave me six bits today!

What's weird is that now the set is full (or at least appears to be) and yet there is still one day left!  I wonder what the last door is going to be?

This is it!  The very last day for the Mastercraft Advent Calendar for 2022!

Before I get to it, I'd like to post a HUGE thanks to Proletenstahl for posting the Wera Advent Calendar this year, and if you haven't checked it out yet, I highly recommend it!  https://forum.multitool.org/index.php/topic,90078.0.html

But, getting back to the Mastercraft Advent Calendar, what's behind Door #24?

Is it Keifer Sutherland, ready to whip off his sunglasses and make a witty comment?

I mean, that kind of makes sense as Mastercraft is the in house brand of Canadian Tire, the most iconic Canadian brand, and Keifer is also Canadian.... and famous for a show called 24!

But no, it's not him.  Heck, once the door was open I wasn't sure what it was, other than being quite reasonably sure it wasn't a famous actor!

Pulling it out was a bit of a challenge too- it seemed to be locked in as if it was the cell next to Al Capone's!

Finally managing to pull it out and.....

The Mastercraft Advent Calendar ended the same way the Wera one did- with a bottle opener!

Okay, not as nice as the bottle opener with the Wera Calendar, but I think that could be said for the whole set-while I do have a nice ratchet set, that Wera set is much nicer!

But, a tool's value is in how well it works, and I'll be sure to put some miles on this whole set, starting with the bottle opener!

the next time I'm at Canadian Tire I will check and see if they have any left if you like.  Technically you can use it in any month!  :D

I'm interested to see if they have a different tool set next year, or if they offer the same one each year.

Should be a great set to stash in the Jeep. If memory serves me correctly, Chrysler products from the mid-1990s onward have lots of Torx fasteners. I had a 1995 Dodge Dakota some 20 years ago. (If you must have one, avoid the 4-banger at all costs.)

I should be pretty safe there- two things I always avoid in trucks are anything with 4 cylinders, and anything 2WD.

And yes, my Jeep is almost all Torx screws.  As I understand it, they are easier for machines to index which is why they are used.  I don't know how true that is, but that's what I have heard.

I also have a nice little kit that is a selection of Torx bits that come in really handy and should pair nicely with this kit.

I think the ratchet may be the wrong size for them though.

I won't outright avoid a truck with a 4-banger (my little Toyota was great). The Dakota was just too heavy for such an engine.

To each their own- many people like 4 cylinder trucks or else they wouldn't make them.

I was actually bot interested in full sized 6 cylinder engines either, but that EcoBoost is actually pretty sexy.  It's taken me a long time to get over the "V8 only" mentality and the "Turbos only live 5 years, max" mentality.  It's not been an easy road, but I am learning that technology has made HUGE leaps and bounds since 1986.

I don't want to ruin the surprise in case I'm given another oldie in the future, so I haven't looked up if including a bottle opener is the norm in tool advent calendars. It definitely makes sense, though. It's nice that the Mastercraft opener is easy to carry. My Wera openers need to be in either a drawer or a toolbox.
