I’ve fallen victim to the Facebook Thought police again!!
I’ve had enough with thatplace!!! I’m logging out and closing my account!  If you want to see me, hope over to Reddit, Parler,Twitter, and YouTube!!

Did the same in 2020 to all social media after I read Jaron Lanier's "Ten arguments for deleting your social media now" which was the final straw after a period of discontent and annoyance with it. Don't miss it one bit.

People use and enjoy social media in many different ways, but I strongly think it's a net negative for society and brings out the worst in people and damages our civic bonds.

Unfortunately FB is a necessary evil for me, or I would have left long ago.  You don't have to look far to find my complaints about the two faced bullsmurf they pull, especially protecting spammers and associated bots while silencing legit users.

What really grinds my gears is they won’t band nudity/porn. BUT!! If you have a political opinion that is to the right of Karl Marx, you’re in their crosshairs!! The final straw was when I post I post article about that Canadian para-Olympian who ask he government about having a stair lift installed in her home. Instead, the only thing the government will offer her is euthanasia. And I commented what the government did to her was wrong.  But facisbook restricted me for that!!( obviously they support the government)
Oh well! I’m not done with facisbook!! :twak:

All I do is post images of multitools on there. I try not to get into anything political, or well...anything on there period. So far haven't had any issues. Reddit on the other hand have a lot of highly opinionated smurfs who think they know more than you. I try hard to not participate on there anymore.

I’m still on FB through necessity, I post the odd joke and that’s my lot. IG (totally unrelated account) I’m getting spammed out of existence. I can barely keep up with repetitive spam accounts that follow me and quite a few others. Meta are obviously not a safe par of hands for any form of interaction online.

That's happened to me so many times now it's not funny. The last one really upset me as it was a suicide awareness thing, FB deemed it it harmful and offensive. ******* *******

It's one thing to allow scammers to use the platform.  That is at least being relatively indifferent.

I have heard of this thing called Facebook.  I’ve never had an account there, but somehow I manage to feel generally happy with my life anyway.

FB has one claim to fame that makes it hard to ignore; user base.
FBs user base, mostly just due to being first, gives the platform immense intrinsic value for anyone trying to reach a specific audience in an efficient manner.

Personally I don’t enjoy the FB format as a discussion board/forum. Poor indexing and search ability makes it hard to go back to old topics and posts to look up interesting information.
However, because of the reach of the platform it has simply become the de facto standard for organizing teams, events, children’s activities etc. I don’t love this monopoly like position they have in this domain, but it’s undeniably easy and in many regards advantageous to everyone developing their own apps / information channels with the hot mess of apps and information fragmentation that would follow from that.

Basically FB has become a necessary evil, but with responsible use, the impact of the evil part is largely mitigated. I only look at notifications from specific groups I need to watch for up to date information on sports events and spare time activities for the kids. I never post and never scroll my feed.

I’ve known for sometime. But I kept it using the “ necessary evil” reason for justification.  But their thought police going after anyone who doesn’t adhere to their leftist authoritarian narrative just push things to the breaking point for me :viking:

Well so much for my prior statement. I made the mistake of posting some of my swords and a few folks decided to take me to task for them. Guess MT.O facebook edition isn't all that safe either. Ah well...so much for that. I guess I should just stick to posting multi-tools I guess.

I was reading that post earlier. Some people just love to bash anything and everything. If you don't buy into their thinking they get hostile. Must make for a real pleasurable individual in the real world.  ::) ::)
