Laser / waterjet cut SAK liners: anyone want them in UK?
on: September 20, 2016, 08:28:07 PM
After realising that my plans to build Frankenknives from mixed parts of others means I'll probably need liners that I don't yet have  :o I've asked some UK machine shops for prices for laser and waterjet cut liners and scale blanks for 91mm Victorinox knives.

Initial prices for very small runs in aluminium don't look as prohibitive as I initially expected  ;).  Larger runs clearly make it more cost effective  8).  Is anyone interested in adding their needs?  Aluminium is cheapest, but uninteresting so I'm thinking that brass or nickel-silver will be more likely to help get to a useful quantity as modders pimp their EDCs  :pok:.

People's thoughts or notes on thickness will be useful as well.  0.9mm seems OK for many of them, but some look to be a bit thicker  ???.

I have next to no knowledge about sak innards, but am looking to get into modding. Sign me up for at least a dozen, more likely two dozen. Brass preferred, but i'm up for anything, really.

Edit: I realize I'm outside the UK, and may be disqualified, but the north sea is tiny, and I'd be happy to cover any extra shipping expenses :)

I should probably have said would anyone like some from the UK - doesn't matter where you are :).

As there are specific liners for various tools, "a dozen " could mean one or two each of several types or 12 all the same (but which shape...).  I am thinking that a cost effective way to do things may be to focus on just a few profiles that are complete themselves, and help reduce the overall amount of cutting needed to make the less common ones with hand finishing.

Sounds perfectly reasonable to me :)

From my experience with waterjet I'd recommend making the dxf file about 0.5 mm larger then the finished part and aftwr some edge sanding it will be just right.  Waterjet is much better than laser as well for thin sheet.  Thin sheet doesn't dissipate heat well and you will get discoloration and warpage.

Put me down for a dozen or so 91mm Brass liners, and 2 pairs of 91mm Scales. Would like to know if there might be material choices on the scales. I am in the USA.
Thanks.

It will be glorious  :ahhh

Then all I need to procure are half a dozen sets of 91mm red alox scales without corkscrew cutouts or scale tool slots and my grail set will be within reach

Hi,
Is this project still ongoing ? :)
Would it be possible to get the CAD files from the 91mm liners ?

Hi, I'm also realy keen to try playing with making some brass liners (~looks deep into the worm hole~). Is it possible to get the dwg / dxf file with the liners?

Much appreciated!
