Who's down with OPTs
on: January 12, 2023, 03:05:59 AM
This is a thread to show off your one piece tools, especially if you don't carry it on a keychain (there is an existing keychain thread).

First off, the tradR Pocket Wrench, a Japanese OPT that is similar to the Pocketwrench II:

EverRatchet

I have found that the ratchet feature works, but that in general the tool is a bit awkward to use on screws.

Thanks, Poncho

Civivi pry tool (comes with a luggage tag which is not shown in the photos):

Though much thinner than the EverRatchet, it probably works better as a prybar. With tools this size, you probably would not try to exert enough force to bend the tool. But it is desirable for it to be thin enough to slide under items that you can't get a finger tip under. The EverRatchet was too thick to slide under the square washer seen in pic #3.

I'll gather mine as well.  I appreciate a OPT.  The Shard was my go to for a while till I left it behind on a job.  I'm a fan of PW2.

I've been searching for one of the Pocket Wrench II s since I read the thread on them. Cool tool.  The only one that I routinely carry is a simple Gerber Shard.

CRKT Viva

I don't think that CRKT makes the Viva anymore, but it is easy enough to find online at a decent price. I think it has enough utility to carry every day.

Gerber Mullet

It may appeal to some people more than the Shard, but I don't think I am one of them.

Very good! Keep them coming

I do not have a lot of OPTs, especially since I stopped having a key chain. Five different ones maybe

I might try and search them all.

I have a Gerber Mullet as well, great pics :like: I do believe I prefer the Shard as well :tu: :like:

Did you know the Shard started out as only a promotional item to advertise for the Gerber Artifact  :salute:

Grant received one at SHOT Show or some show  and showed it here on MTO and after a while there was such a positive want for them that Gerber decided to put them into regular production and I believe they have probably outsold the Artifact :ahhh

I have on my table several OPTs and Keychain tools, so hopefully I get some pics taken of them  :ahhh :D

Here are the ones closest at hand.  I enjoyed my Shard till I left it mistakenly at a clients home.  I got the LM by The Numbers and the #4 became by go to.  I then went for a while without a OPT on my keychain till got another Shard.  I don't know why but I didn't reconnect with it so I took it off my keychain.

I like and prefer my Mullet more that the Shard.  Larger means more leverage over the really small tools.  I used it the other day to dislodge a nail and open a paint can as well as scrape.

I bought a trio of CnC ( cheap and Cheerful ) pry tools and one is on my work tool belt.  Its decent but I did bend one.  I cannot recall where the other is.  Sorry no pic.

My PW2 was bought a while ago ( I got 2 ).  It really is a great tool.  I also have one on my work tool belt in my surge sheath.

The orange tool is from a MTO member KERT tool?  I got I a long time about from Lynn also a member.

The Skulls on the chain are from Pocket TT.  Purchases a long time ago.  They were mostly pocket jewelry for me.  I love skulls.

The other Skull I believe is HEST knife tool?

We are all familiar with the round keychain tools.  One is Craftsmen and one Mac tools.

Gerber Mullet
Please tell me that is not black oxide. I really don't need to put more targets in my sights! :D

Here are the ones closest at hand.
Quite the collection! :like:

Here's my collection at present time. We see a CRKT Iota, a Gerber Shard, a Gerber Mullet, a KeySmart Alltul "bear," and a Latshaw Pocket Wrench II. The Iota was a freebie from Knife Center, but the others came from MTo members (the Shard from Aloha, the Mullet and the Pocket Wrench II from Adam5, and the Alltul from whomever put it in the surprise box). :hatsoff:
