Badge request scale changer: a walnut Scales
on: January 17, 2023, 01:45:20 AM
I share with you this piece.  It is a Victorinox Climber with the scales made by me in walnut.  At home we had a walnut tree that we had to cut down because it interfered with the power lines.  the truth is that I made the scales to have a memory of that tree.  Now it's regrowth, this time I won't let it get so high.  The boxes are made by hand and finished with Tung oil, I think I was wrong because they have turned out very yellow, linseed oil would have been better.  I know it's not at the level of the pieces you see here, but I did it... and of course that gives it value to me (besides, I never thought I could do it, it was a challenge for me)

Those are good looking zdec, I don’t mind the tung oil color. I may try to do a set of these with some pecan I have laying around.

Great job! If you want to darken the walnut wood, you can "smoke" it. Put the knife in a small box with a lid and put a cup of 24,5% ammonia next to it. Close the lid and leave the knife over night.
I do this with oak and walnut all the time, makes it really nice and dark :)
