Cleaning up a Queen pocket knife
on: February 10, 2023, 12:18:48 PM
Here is a Queen TL29 Electricians knife (according to the 1995 catalog) that I bought with oxidized Delrin scales:

I got it with the thought that it would be a great knife for me gain some experience at fixing up knives that need a little TLC.

I sanded the scales to remove almost all of the oxidized Delrin and also sanded the blades to knock down some scatches. Then I used a little Case Paste to polish the blades and bolster.

Nice addition to your collection and good job of cleaning it up !   :tu:

It must have been stored in a pretty harsh environment for the Queen Steel to pit like that.

That came out GREAT.  I use mothers mag wheel paste which is pretty good.  I don't have any experience with Case polish.  It looks to be some really good stuff tho.

Nicely done! :tu: I've awlso heard that 3-In-1 oil can work wonders on oxidized Delrin.

It looks like it rode around in the back of a pickup truck  :D

I did do a fair amount of sanding, starting with 220 grit up to 2000 grit. But the Case polish did do a good job of putting a shine on the metal.

Thanks!

I read that too, but it didn't have any effect in my case. Maybe because the oxidized layer was relatively thick. Also, the oxidized layer could be scratched with a fingernail, so I believe it needed to be removed.
