I'm sorry to hear this isn't working out and you will need surgery.  Aloha is right though- surgery isn't a bad thing when needed.

If your work related injuries program is half as good as ours then you should be in good hands.  Here they cover you for everything, pay you for time off, provide modified duties for you when you return, and allow for physiotherapy and other things that may be necessary for as long as you need it.

After my last injury I have decided that all injuries going forward will be work injuries, even if I have to live with a broken leg all weekend and break it Monday morning!

Just came back from the orthopedic. 
My toe bone that had fractured has been fusing back together, but crooked. So I have to have surgery. 
It had been getting worse these past few weeks, and I'm back to limping. And now surgery.

How did surgery go.  I hope you are on the mend now.

Thought I would give a quick update, seeing how it has been 3 months since my injury.

I am able to walk around a little more each day wearing a supportive shoe.  I can definitely tell that the foot is healing.  It is hard not to overdo it especially as the weather gets nicer.  My foot quickly lets me know if I do push too much.

All in all though the healing continues.

I’ve been in bad pain for a while with a herniated disc so time to sort it

Here's a funny story that involves both types of injuries....

When I had my first ankle surgery I was in a semi private room to recover.  My roommate was also recovering from surgery on his back.  I don't know what was done for him, but he had to remain completely immobilized for 12 hours following the surgery.  I was only supposed to keep my reconstructed foot immobilized, but I could sit up and lay down, use my arms etc.

As the nurse was making her rounds she told us both that we need to "void" which is medical speak for we need to fill our bedpans.

She left, and I tried, but after 25 years of not peeing the bed, it was a hard habit to break, and my roommate had many more years of practice than I did.  When she returned to find two empty bedpans she told us that we were going to get catheters when she came back if we didn't take care of business ourselves.

She left again, and, not wanting a catheter, I dangled my legs off the side of the bed, stood on my right foot and filled my measuring cup.  I was strongly tempted to try and hobble across the room and put some in my roommate's cup as well, but I didn't want to get caught and I figured my roommate might have bigger problems if his bladder wasn't drained.

He didn't manage to do it on his own by the time the nurse came back, so the curtain between us came out.   

The sounds..... absolutely horrific, and I felt doubly bad for not having helped the guy out with a bit of my own.... you know.

I had a very restless night, largely due to pain from surgery, the drugs and frequent nurse visits, but also some from feeling guilty that I could have saved that poor smurf from what sounded like a wholly unpleasant experience.

The guilt subsided almost instantly the following morning when his 12 hour immobilization ended, he got up. proclaimed this was the first time in over a decade that he had no pain, got dressed and just about danced out the door, while I was still sitting there with a cast on my leg!

If I could do twelve hours of absolute hell and then get to go through the rest of my life without pain I'd sign up immediately!

Fortunately with the ankle, knee and hip problems I am unlikely to ever be in good enough shape to do anything that may hurt my back!

Through the years, I have successfully managed to mess up multiple parts of my body but this recovery has been one of the worst, because of how long both pain and activity limitation have existed.

I am trying to be sensible and responsive to how my foot feels, but as the weather gets nicer my patience wants to get shorter.  But rest assured no mountains are in the near future, but can’t wait for a nice beach walk.
