Day 30

What a great challenge everyone.  Thanks to Enginears for hosting!

I was skeptical I’d get everything done this month with a SC.  I was able to get by primarily with the XLT.  I think it will be able to replace my Wave in the office, lab, and probably most at home tasks for now.

Day 30 of 30

Last day of challenge and what is better way to end this challenge than SwissChamp Sunday. Today used scissors to cut zipties what i used to put cordless vacuum cleaner container back in place. Phillips was used to tighten door handles when we were visiting my in-laws.

This was great challenge to complete once again, shame that i do t have willpower to continue this challenge to 60 days.

Looks good. We call em baked potato.

To be fair, so do we, but the two terms are basically interchangable.

 everyone, this was a great 30 days. :woohoo:

I found carrying the SC a lot easier than the Camper challenge. I had a few cravings for my other SAKs, but overall I was busy marveling at having all the tools on hand and my emerald scales were very easy on the eyes. The champ goes against some of my minimalist ideas, so I was skeptical coming into it but for the size and weight penalty it felt like a good deal. I tracked my tool usage in order to help plan a new mod or purchase.

Tool analysis: I divided the tools into 4 groups.

Group 1: >5 uses
Scissors
Big Blade
File
Small Blade

Group 2: 3-4 uses
Phillips
Bottle Opener
Scaler

Group 3: 1-2 uses
Wood Saw
Pliers
Mag glass
Can Opener
Awl
Chisel
Toothpick
Corkscrew

Group 4: Did not use
Hook
Small Flathead
Tweezers
Pen

Unfortunately during the challenge I lost the straight pin when it fell out of the scale.  Also, there was a couple of times in the month when the thickness of the champ made using a particular tool more difficult.

Due to the tool use, now I am thinking of making a Modeler, or maybe a Yeoman+file.  Although the Champ seems like the perfect tool box for the light crafting/fixing/making that I find myself doing around the house for my kids.

This morning I was on the fence about pushing it to 60 days and going right up to the 84/85 challenge. If Barry and Harley are in than I am in!

And here we are at the end! Typically it's been a no use day to finish off. It's been a cracking challenge though, awl.

Day 30 of 60!

So after scoring a couple of sweet tools from the SOS mystery box it official. My old fishing box is too small.

SC opening up my new tool storage solution.

Think maybe I got carried away with the size of it…….for now.

I’ll break out the heat gun and take off the general branding stuff.

Day 30

Final use of the challenge

Fixed an antenna cable - used pliers to undo the screwed cable.

Congratulations on finishing the challenge gents Sadly this month was really calm and quiet if not boring from a hobby standpoint - not much to fix or make around. Hope some of the next challenges will be more exciting for me at least, though thanks for setting this up and hope all of you enjoyed it

Day 28

Two more days to go.
Didn't do anything today, printed something for a friend.
I will state that despite the bulk of the SC, I kind of got used to having it loose in a pocket.

Hooked, like everyone else. ;)

All hail the hook!

You could always keep it going and maybe have a more exciting last 30 days.

Just saying.

Day 30

Thanks for hosting, Engi!

Here're the three champs for the month, and some quick thoughts on each:

1. Minichamp Alox

The daily driver. I think I'll stick with my Executive, the extra tools didn't see much use, and I like having the larger blade and file. I also like having t&t on my keychain knife. I probably use the toothpick more when I'm stuck at a red light than anywhere else (where else do I look in a mirror?) and being able to grab it there is nicer.

2. Cyberchamp (Cybertool L/41)

I've had the Cybertool L for a while, but hadn't carried it much before this month. Absolutely love the thing. I find the smaller CTs to be too bulky for the tools they carry (make a Cyber Compact Vic!) but the L is a great all around home electronics fix it gadget.

3. Workchamp

This was the standout of the challenge. When I did the combo-edge challenge, I talked about how the '08 is too much knife and not enough multitool for me. The Workchamp offers an alternative to a PST sized tool that trades smaller pliers for more secondary tools. I don't know if I'll EDC is to the office, but I was very please with the tool density and easy handling.

I'm glad I finally got to spend a month with the Minichamp. I didn't love it, but it's always fun to have that many tools in such a tiny package. The Cyberchamp wasn't a surprise, but nice to carry. Love the Workchamp. I'd been on the fence about getting one for a while, and I'm glad the challenge gave me an excuse.

DAY 30

Used the toothpick after eating a wonderfully done grass fed ribeye steak. Then used the cap lifter to pop the cap on some fancy bubbly water.  :ahhh

It’s been an interesting challenge carrying the 90s era SwissChamp- it’s hard not to feel prepared for anything with this chunker in your pocket. Surprised at just how many tools I ended up using. While I do greatly appreciate the utility of the SwissChamp my allegiance still remains for the MiniChamp. (just love that little bugger.)  :D

To round out this challenge. Figured I’d post a picture of all my champs- 90s era on right, CT34 on top, 80s era on the left and my favorite Champ- the MiniChamp- in the middle.

Cheers to awl who participated in this awesome challenge

And a BIG Cheers to Engi for hosting

Day 30:

The last day was a good day,  I got to fix a kitchen chair that was falling apart, and free some tomato soup from its plastic hell.

As a nice bonus, my wife used the pliers to spin some shirts into shape for tie dying. The pliers were perfect. She gripped the middle of the shirt and twisted. After the first round, the tightness of the wind held the plier jaws in place, so she could focus on the spinning.

Day 30 of 30:
Used the can opener to pry off the white scales of my Rambler and put the blue scales on to make it a Manager. (Image removed from quote.)

Nicely done, and that blue is just sweet. :dd:
The Rambler is not discontinued, right? They discontinued the Manager, but as long as there's Ramblers, we'll have Managers around.  :like:

My key chain Manager will remain my daily edc. However, while the challenge highlighted that a Ranger (as I had kinda settled on already) is my probably my best larger option with regards to most used tools I’ll definitely be keeping the Champ handy around the house for the sheer versatility of the thing…it  is a little bit to genius.  :hatsoff: Victorinox.

Today has been a no use day so far. While I was enjoying the nice weather a duck woke up and came to check out the champ. Seemed a bit disappointed it was not a sandwich or vegetable.   [ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]
