on: March 05, 2023, 09:31:39 AM
Hi LM Wave 1st gen owners, have you experienced your MT not closing completely when in the folded position?
I can't seem to close my Wave 1stgen completely. Not sure what is wrong, need help here. Thanks!

Not sure I have ever had the experience with the first generation Wave :think: but the second generation Wave had this problem when a tab inside the handle was bent or broke :ahhh

I have had the experience with a PST that I just throwed a few tools in :think: but it will close if I close one fo the handles before the other :shrug:

I hope we can get to the bottom of this :salute: some pics of the inside of the handles would help as well :cheers:

If the handle tools (flathead, can opener, etc) are not fully seated, they can interfere with the closure by running into the plier heads. Also, if any of those tools become bent left or right, you can end up with a similar problem.

And then a bit more remote possibility, did you take it apart and re-assemble it incorrectly? That can also cause it not to close properly.

I took a look at one of my OG Waves, and I think your problem is that one of your outer tool lockbars is bending inward, and preventing the plier heads from fully seating in the closed position. Either the lock bar is bent out of shape, or there is something on an outer-tool blade that is pushing it too far in when fully closed. Like you modified an outer tool, or it has something on it pressing into the lock tab, or the little bump stop pin on the outer tool blade is riding up underneath the lock tab, pressing it into the body of the tool. From the look of it, the saw blade side.

@Poncho65 @bobartig
Thanks for the replies!

I haven't tried disassembling the Wave, afraid I might not be able to put it back correctly.
Now that you've mentioned it, I saw riveted bars on the inside of the handles, one looks like a small part broke off. Not sure if this is the culprit.

I've added a video so you can see the action when I'm trying to close the tool.

That broken part could definitely be the culprit  :ahhh

It is part of the plier ramp closure and would interfere with it closing, I believe  :think: :salute:

Thanks for the pics and the video :tu:
