Hello all and greetings!

So I've been a multitool/knife/EDC enthusiast for almost 17 years now, but it's been something I've kept mostly to myself, and I've only let a handful of people know about it (but don't quite share the same ebthusiasm 🫤).

As most of you may know, these pocket "tools" have quite a stigma in the eyes of the general population, especially that one particular sharp edged pointy tool. It's because of this I've mostly kept this "secret" hobby of mine to myself.

But lately I've been thinking, which shy away from something I really like? I'm sure there are like-minded people out there that I an connect with!

And that brings me to this forum today! I hope to be part of the community and share my enthusiasm with people alike. Hoping to grow my little collection and make some gems available for you guys too!

Here's a picture of my Victorinox Mechanic that I recently "reunited" with.

Cheers and have good day or evening ahead of you!

Hi, MuSAKcian! welcome to the forum

I can relate to your secretism. In our modern and ever more urbanized society there is both stigma and an ever growing pile of rules and regulations forcing many of us to enjoy this interest in the shadows.

I try to keep a low profile in public, but also realize that this behaviour amplifies the issue, so within my safe environments (home, office, outdoor etc) I try to have some knives and/or multi tools visible (to a reasonable extent) so I can contribute to a normalization process and help keep the stigma at bay.

Welcome aboard, if you have questions ask away, I’m sure one of us will be up waaay past bedtime trying to figure it out, it’s kinda how it works around here, until it just won’t work and then a whole group will agree with them,, that’s when you break out the tools and make your own custom and show that it will work and then the whole group that said it wouldn’t work goes to liking what you made,, we’re funny.. other then that welcome aboard,

Welcome, some people don't understand the utility of these things. They demonise them because that's what the media tells them to do.

Thanks for the warm welcome guys! I'm glad I'm welcomed with open arms here and it's good to see that we have quite a number of things in common!

Looking forward to getting to know you guys!

You absolutely are welcomed with open arms here- I think we all have a similar story or experience,  For me, my father was a Canadian redneck in the military, and there were always knives around the house.  I learned to appreciate good knives and tools, but only at home.

You see, my father had some knives, but didn't collect them per se, he just had knives for different uses, like a hunting knife for hunting, a camp knife for camping, a fishing knife for fishing etc.

The only collector I had heard of had murdered someone, and let someone else take the blame for it, resulting in one of the biggest miscarriages of justice in Canada, and there was absolutely no way I wanted to have any association with that smurfhole.

So, for years I hid my interest in knives until discovering the internet in the late 90's and learning how great the knife community is.

That's what inspired me to start Multitool.org and I am glad that all of the members here appreciate what we have all built together.  I couldn't be more proud of the members that we have here, and the welcoming and helpful tone they have continued.  I may be a bit biased, but this is truly the best forum on the internet!
