DAY 27

As stated yesterday, I found out that my oldest No8 was from the 1960's, so I thought I would do some comparison photos.

1960's No8 - hand stamped

1990's Inox No8 - please note that when closed the Inox No8 has a square grind to the butt end of the blade, so not an easy mod for the picnic fork and spoon

Now the No8 garden knife - the blade is thinner too.

Now the 1960s vs the 1990s - the blade stock is thicker in the stainless and my carbon steel 1990s No8's...not by much at all, but when you are really cutting hard with them in turn, it is noticable (this was before I saw the difference), I will get the caliper out....the only thing to note is that the carbon blades has a continuous draw / taper to the end point, while the stainless blade has a dramatic taper halfway down the blade

Thank you, and @Enginears too! I do like the looks, should carry it more really. Light, sharp, good size and solid, good value like all Opis.
If memory serves it is called Chaperon

Got out some other blades to have a whittle comparison over the lunch break. The Opinel is such an all business knife, serious slicing, serious working blade.

Wood sealer is next, then the selected stain, or just some polyurethane that I found.
If I start and end the day above ground, it is a good day!

Hope yours is as good!

Thank you.
Took my time, a little at a time.

I also took the back of the blade at the tip DOWN removing the lift that a normal cli point tip exhibits.

If I start and end the day above ground, it is a good day!

Hope yours is as good!

28  Question

Nice Opi right...
Do you EDC it - obviously not a work knife?
What's your use for the Slim?

DAY 28

Lunchtime..... with help from the No8 garden knife.

I love the blade shape, but as a user it needs to have the original No8 handle shape to really shine.

I agree with you on both counts.  I'll say the Slim fits in the pocket so we'll you forget it's even there.

Opinel '24 Day 28
I used the very orange Opinel pruning knife to cut off a palmetto frond.  I had to rock it up and down to cut through the edge of the frond, which was pretty tough.  I thought I might cut to the center line, then I'd make another cut on the other side.  However, once it broke the surface it pulled all the way through like a zipper.  I've also been cutting off bits of hedge that are sticking out where they shouldn't, and this knife really works well in that capacity.
