Day 2

For the past few Saturdays, I have been working at my daughter's house getting it ready to be sold. Today, I am working on washing the exterior. The No.6 walnut is tagging along today:

Day 2

Went with my Oak handle no. 8 and a modded ST300M for STS. Really am enjoying following along and see what you are all up to.  When I got this no.8, I was unsure if I would like the lanyard they attached to if. After having it for a couple of months now I really like it. It makes retrieving the knife easier from the pocket. At some point I will get around to tying a nicer para cord lanyard.

I have Outdoors model too!  The combo blade make sense to me, as the  SE blade portion can easily slice through ROPE in an emergency situation, as this is an emergency style knife that added function is practical.
Same reason I like my MultiTools with both a plain edge and a serrated edge.  Just MHO
Thanks for the feedback on it.

Personally I’d rather have a full PE blade, with maybe a full SE as a second blade (or second knife), e.g. original Swisstool, Wave, or Cold Steel Lucky Two.

Some of my most common tasks, like trimming cigars and whittling my fingernails, are easiest with a PE blade section closest to the handle.

Also, if you have a shorter CE blade and are trying to use either just the PE or just the SE section for something, you don’t have a lot to work with.  The No. 8 Outdoor has a 3.25” blade, so assuming a 50/50 split you have just about 1.6” of PE and 1.6” of CE, which isn’t much.  Now, if a CE blade is longer, say 4”+, you could have more useably sized PE and SE sections.

In my experience, a PE will cut rope just fine, especially if it is kept sharp.

As I think about this more, a No. 8 Outdoor with two blades would be great.  One blade the same as existing except PE.  Second blade full SE, but with rounded tip like the No. 7 Kids Outdoor.  I’d buy one.  Or maybe a couple.

Looks like a fun time!

How do you like that No. 8 Outdoor?  I’ve been considering one, but the CE blade is a bit of a turnoff for me.
Honestly speaking I haven’t used it yet. It arrived couple of days before the challenge as I bought it for the travel to mountains.
I usually use my standard no.8 or 9 to do the cutting around the house.

Some bites to pair with my wine ;)

Day 2

The No. 10 opened a fresh five-pack of cigars.

I really like the standard Opinel blade shape.   It’s pointy, it’s slicey (pretty sure those are the technical terms), it is no frills but very effective.

Day 2

It's kind of a shame Opinel doesn't make all the sizes 1-30 so someone could go through them day by day.

Showing off my No 7 today. I had a No 6, and decided I wanted something a little bigger. The 6 still sees more pocket time, but the 7 is a great around the house knife. It's been doing a great job on my CYO olive wood No 8, user error not withstanding. I think I'm going to reshape the blade on the 8 a bit. If I'm going to carve my own handle, I might as well mod the blade a bit as well. I have a few other knives I've been thinking about reshaping (mostly ones I got with broken tips) but they're older/more expensive, so this is a nice low stakes practice piece.

Day 2

My DIY arrived Friday, and this morning I need a slight bit of makeup before a picture!

With my first Walnut handle, a No6!, I just like how it carries in the pocket.

And,  a question that has bugged me since my first package arrived last fall.   With this No6 and any knives that arrived individually in envelopes!

Awl packaging indicate “Made in France” except the envelopes?

I know the folk in France are a very proud lot, but ins’t there a ENVELOPE MAKER/PRINTER in FRANCE?
The DIY looks like such an interesting knife between the bit driver and blade design

Nice pic

Day 2

Lovely collections and photos so far, :tu: I have been waiting to test this knife on making feather sticks and scraping fire steels. I am impressed!  [ Quoting of attachment images from other messages is not allowed ]    [ Quoting of attachment images from other messages is not allowed ]    [ Quoting of attachment images from other messages is not allowed ]
I too was pleasantly surprised at how well the Opinel works as a fire making companion.  I now keep one in my fire kit.
