To the beach I went.

You're never too far from the beach in Hawaii, I suppose!

I live a solid 200 miles inland. Until a couple years ago, my kids had never seen the ocean. I took my son deep sea fishing out of Murrell's Inlet two years ago...he loved it. I took him and my daughter briefly to the beach when we were in Myrtle Beach later that year, helping with hurricane cleanup. They were 14 and 13 when they saw the beach and ocean for the first time. My second daughter was along last year when we went to Charleston and went to The Battery and overlooked the harbor. She was 12. The youngest five kids still have not seen it at all.

I believe he is in California. I assumed he was in Hawaii once too. It's that deceptive username...

Yes California tho Aloha spirit in my heart.  Spent a lot of time in Oahu with family ( inlaws ).  We live about 2.5 miles as the crow flies to the Pacific Ocean now.  I grew up a beach bum as mom loved the ocean.  Lived in Huntington Beach as a lad and recall being there everyday with mom.  I took my kids to the beach quite a lot, for sunsets, walks, fun in the sun, and picnics.

We got out there again Saturday for sunset.

That's the best thing about Aloha's neck of the woods: the weather is as near perfect as I've yet found. In wintertime, I'm lucky to have temperatures above freezing. Taking the trash outside is as outdoorsy as I'll get until about the middle of spring!

SoCal is pretty great weather wise.  We've been getting some rain but between the storms the sun pops out.

Was out for a walk.. Been kind of down lately so I did what I usually do and headed out in the forest for a break from life. On my way home I stopped by a place that an nearby neighbor had a relative living a long time ago. I have been there before and last fall she came by and showed me a picture of how it looked when she was a kid

It's just the old chimney and a lot of rusty old crap.. It was sold to someone not living in Sweden who had big plans but then just left it alone for several decades. I don't know who owns it now

I took my wife for a hike in a preserve that had a wildfire in late December.  The general public looks at this as bad, but those of us that work there were very happy about the fire.  Fire is essential to the ecosystem. You can see green sprouting up only two weeks after the fire.  :D

Been a while since my last post.  We heard there was a new camp ground close by so we had to check it out.  There were RV sites and Yurts.  This campground seems geared towards families which I thought was great.  I didn't see tent spaces but thats ok.

Plenty of MTB tails, horse trails, walking, or just nothing.  Booked January just to have a go at this place.  The yurts were pretty neat.  Huge actually.  They have electric but not allowed to use heaters within.

I'm a fan of anything that gets families out so this place is very cool in my book.  There's a building with showers and flush toilets.  Nice way to have a staycation without needing a lot of gear.  They ranger we spoke to said it was not as busy as they hoped but it was still fairly new ( about a year ).  We did see a handful of RVs which was nice.  We also saw a few MTBers as well.  The trials are flat but I'm sure fun for anyone who enjoys trail riding.

I'll report back on this place for sure.

As for my last outdoor adventure, we are still beach walking.

I hope you all are also still getting out.

I'm not getting out much (it's too cold for that), but I'd live to stay in a yurt!

Every season has its charm ;)

Today a friend gave me and my dog a ride to a frozen lake where we spent two hours on the ice, ice skating, before we walked back home through the woods. A really nice winter day in the outdoors

We had a little bit of a storm blow through but not enough to keep me from a walk on the beach.
