The Spirit chisel helped break down a few boxes and then the slot driver  helped turn screws for changing an air filter.

Day 59: Almost there!  Used the butter blade to cut open some Stabil for my lawn equipment.

Comis has designed a really nice badge for this challenge for the 60 days participants.  It's currently with the mods for approval.  I'll let everyone know when it's ready to go.
I think Steve has already put it up on the merit page for us, thanks Barry for the inspiration of this badge and Steve doing the admin work! :tu:

*Day 59*

Can't imagine how fast this flies, we have just one more day till finish!

Little guy and I probably suffer some kind of bronchitis infection, and luckily the school grant him a chance to retake his exam.  Kid nowadays live in such competitive landscape, I sometimes admire his drive and courage at such young age.

Thanks to everyone of you who have participated in this Challenge!  60 days is a long time for those of us who love the variety of multitools there are.  I could get along famously with the Spirit.  It is the SAK of multitools in so many ways besides manufacturer.  I've used mine a lot over the time I've had it, and now I'm used to it being on my belt.  Is it perfect?  No but it's pretty close for my needs.

Thanks again for a really fun time everyone!

Day 60

:iagree: many thanks to Barry for all the encouragement along the way and great work fellow challengers :hatsoff:

The badge looks really great comis and Barry, top stuff  :like:

The Spirit, what’s not to like, such a superb MT :multi: with probably the best F&F of any of them, such a satisfying tool to open and close

The main tools I found myself using over and over were the chisel (aka the chiselly thing) for package opening, and the bottle opener, which is a bit thicker than a lot of them so works better.

Also used the butter blade, drivers and scissors as well as the awl for scraping out the pill crusher, all great

Still not entirely convinced by the saw as per my discussion with comis early on in the challenge. His videos testing MT saws (and other tools) are really worth checking out if you haven’t already

As has been said before, the butterblade pairs brilliantly with almost any other PE knife, whether trad, folder, SAK or fixie. A no 7 or 8 Opinel would make an excellent choice imo

For my last pic I was thinking which SAK would pair well for me and I think Compact is perfect (this one gifted to me by the fine gentleman that is @SurgeUk when we caught up in London last year  :hatsoff:) but Cadet gives me the nail file, so I’m on the fence

Thanks again awl  :tu: :salute:

*Day 60*

Spirit making a sock puppet with Little guy.

Many thanks to Barry for hosting this 60 days challenge, I've always wanted to do one with Spirit and there is no better chance than this.

I think for my very urban life, a multitool is probably an overkill for my daily uses.  Most common tools I used on almost day-to-day basis is the blade and scissors, while others tools may see some occasional use from time to time.

Having said that, I actually do think Spirit is a really worthy companion, especially if I plan to do things outdoor or know those tools may come to use.  It's relatively lightweight as a flagship model, having all the tools easily accessible and the one-handed MX blade really is a game changer.  To me, it probably is one of the best, if not the best, MT there is.

Thanks again to everyone whom have participated in this challenge, as always, you are what makes this challenge unique and the forum experience pleasant.  Hope you all will have a good rest of the week, and see you in the next one!

Day 60

Wow... what a great challenge! Had lots of fun with this one and doing it made me appreciate the Spirit more than I had previously. It has always been one of my favorites (and I now have 6 variants as a testament) and as I said before,  it has everything you need and nothing you don't. It might actually be my favorite MT (although the Surge is tough to beat) - I will say it is in my top 2 MTs and a clear winner when weight and sleekness are priorities. I used the chisel/ package opener,  scissors and bottle cap lifter the most.  The blade,  awl, pliers and file were probably next. Followed by the drivers, saw and can opener....I even used the van opener a couple of times! Interesting that in other months the drivers might see the most action. It just was not the case as much these last two months. Regardless,  I am happy to have them easily accessible when the need comes up.

While I could get by with only carrying a Spirit, I did find wanting to have a companion knife as well and gravitated to three main variants. An Alox solo (when using the BB Spirit), a Farmer (when I had the MXBS) for the saw, a Compact (with either "S" version) and my lovely serrated Spartan (paired with MX Clip and most recently my new XBS). This pairing combination gives me access to all tools I need and use regularly and I think a saw, serrated blade and scissors are all critical for a MT or for my EDC.

I came to appreciate the scissors more and actually think the one handed opening blade is not needed/required in my use. I actually found I prefer the versions without this feature,  which surprised me.  I also found that the pocket clip is not critical for my carry as the Spirit is light enough to not bother me when carrying it in my pocket.  I rarely use belt sheaths and so no comment on using one in this challenge.  I found that I did not need it.

Barry, thanks for putting this on and Comis, thanks for designing the badge.  Also thanks to all the other participants as it had been great participating with each of you.

Hopefully I will see you on a future challenge!

Day 60 of 60

Last day of challenge. I did have today chance to use both of my Spirits. I took our bootscrapers lower brush what detached yesterday when kids played with it bit too hard.
First i used pliers to remove screws, needed bit help of chisel to dig broken screw it was breaked inside of brush and needed remove bit wood to unscrew it.

After that i drilled holes to it and needed awl help to remove burs out of it, then i screwed bolts (stronergs than screws i have) with flathead. Needed first change washer cause it was too big and was interfier with brush.

Lastly i installed brush back in place and used flathead and other Spirits pliers to screw nut to it.

So i was able to use both Spirit to get job done. I could done job with other tools but cause its challenge last day i decided to use both.
It was fun challenge to do, but now that im mostly at home i think i return to carry SAK only since i dont need to carry it with me all the time, but i will throw my other Spirit to my edc bag cause its so handy tool to have along when needed. Butterblade Spirit was placed back to sheat and orginal box next to with my other tools in collection.
I may take it sometimes out just to play with it.

Thanks everyone who participated this awesome challenge. Bit long post but needed to show all uses with Spirit today.

Day 31 + 26 = 57

Chilly day, and I made the decision to not venture out into the cold, instead research; for gifts, for escrow accounts, and  try to learn about the BUTTER BLADE.

Made progress on first two items.   I feel information about the butter blade is not out there.

SAKWiki had the model numbers for the Spirit and did learn a model was made with BOTH a drop point and butter blade.  Spirit S - 3.0223 (no scissors) and disappeared  in 2017.

The model I have pictured is the Spirit XC - 3.0227 and was discontinued in 2019/2020.

The other model I have is a Drop Point with scissors Spirit  X - 3.0224

Yet no explanation as to why the unique butter blade serrated blade.   Vic does nice serrated blades, I have a OHT and SE Spartan.  Both are cutters.
My only thought, was it to enhance cheese and meat slicing for picnics!?!?
But if so, why not an integrated cork screw.🙄

Anyone have ideas or info.  I am still new to the Victorinox  and Wenger world and I was not into MTs in 2004 when the Spirit was introduced.

Oh my, my brain hurts…😩

If I start and end the day above ground, it is a good day!

Hope yours is as good!
