Comis, that makes sense.  No one would give the butter blade a second glance.

Actually that now Comis mentioned OHO butterblade i have seen mod somewhere where someone made hole on frame and added stud to blade. Drilled hole to blade and maded threads so stud could be screwed to blade but modder didnt give any feedback how usable blade was after mod cause i would think it hinder cutting since stud was approximitly same point where straight part blade ended. If i correctly remember reason for that was it was easier to open when it was further from pivot.

Funny thing that i just noticed even that i have used Spirits years that blades on both Spirit seems to be desinged more for lefties since if it had OHO option it would be easier to open as lefty than right handed, all Swisstools and Spirit has blade diffrent side than MX and MXBS models.
I dunno how i have missed this fact all these years.
I open regular versions by holding it left and open blade with right hand like my SAK and tools allways points down.
Few tools open up if you hold SwissTool on left and open with right like File, Saw, small Flathead and Chisel.
Phillips is easier open when it points down since Chisel prevent easy opening, can opener side has more room to open it.

So if you want to mod regular version of Spirit as one hand and you are right handed Blade and Saw needs to change place and probably make new nail nick for saw to other side.

Also wouldnt be suprised if Sam Lim had made that mod too cause he have modded Spirit before.

Also found video where Thumb Stud is added to PE Blade of Spirit and small notchbto frame where stud can go.

I have been dreaming to attempt a one-handed mod for Spirit for the longest time, after seeing the original post from J-sews back in 2007.  He went a great distance to create a custom blade for Spirit, just so it could be opened one-handed.

So imagine my excitement when I first see the one-handed Spirit via the MXBS and the later MX version.  I really do think they do a pretty good job on the wing-tab, and it is so easy to operate that it could be done even with heavy gloves.
The problem I have with the wing tab is that it can really only used as intended (thumb opening) right-handed (left in case of MXBS serrated).  It can be done LH, but not as easily if they used something like a thumb stud or hole.

Thanks guys. I woke yesterday at 3 a.m. to my dog of almost 17 years not being able to stand up anymore. His body started shutting down a few hours later. Some may disagree, but I chose for him not to suffer.
Happy to hear your doggo is doing better Barry!

Now that's a great idea!  Actually I think that's the way to go.  It's ambidextrous for sure.

Very sorry to hear that Roc, I’m sure you did the right thing but my heart goes out to you, such a hard thing

It’s a testament to how well looked after he was and how much love you gave him that he almost made it to 17, that’s an incredible achievement

I agree. It still makes you wish you could have done more. Guess that comes with the package of owning(then owning us). He was a great dog.

I am so sorry to hear.  Making the choice to stop suffering is so hard, but comes from a place of love some cannot understand.

I'm so sorry Roc.  Thanks, I spent the night with her on the floor.  So far so good.
As a teenager I had a dog with epilepsy, I spent many a night sitting with her.  I am sure it was a comfort for your dog.

Thanks Sherry.  I've had dogs all my life, but this is the first time for me to have an epileptic dog.  It's tough because there's not a lot you can do outside of the meds.

ROC, my sincerest condolences 😢

You knew your friend and did him right. They can not talk but their eyes convey many emotions.

I have had numerous dogs in my 70 years, most were working dogs, on the farm next door, hunting (beagles) and later years Pets (English Cockers), actually my wife’s.

Each approach end of life differently, the  last two required intervention.  One was in so much pain, but my wife could not let go, so I asked the vet to make a home visit.  Bama was more relaxed, my wife a case!  The eyes just said thank you.

My last was Heidi, was there to do  your  bidding up until the last, eyes all smiles yet body was failing. Went for ride in my truck, stopped at the vets, and held her until the med did the task.

I told myself  never again…. The pain is real as the BOND is indescribable and lasting.

It was not until about a year ago, I fully understood why my wife had me  remove the yard fence.   No impluse purchases.
If I start and end the day above ground, it is a good day!

Hope yours is as good!

Day 60

Comments left in day 59 post.

One final observation, I realized this morning the Butter blade handled many tasks for cutting without fail, slicing, chopping, dicing, but one. Pealing!!!

The SE does not do a great job at pealing, an Apple, or a potato.   Removes to much meat.

Yet, it is a cutter, and yet stays extremely sharp and has never needed a sharpening,!plus I avoid my fingers from any edge contact at awl times.  A SE bite is very  painful. 🙄

I agree with LC that animal sure does convey so much emotions thru eye contacts and such.  It must have not been easy, but 17 years!  It is lucky to have you in life, and I have no doubt the feeling is the same for you.

There isn’t much, but I think the calm and comforting presence helps them a lot. My dog got where she could sense a seizure coming on and would try to get to me or my Mom before it started.  I think it was because she knew we would sit with her.

On the road yesterday. No use. Opened an Amazon package today with the knife.  Watch battery died.  I’ve been thinking about getting an Apple Watch. Anyone have any negatives on them?

Well! I agree to disagree, my friend.

Yes, I have some nice wrist watches, I besides being rugged and reliable, they look good doing the simple task they are designed for, reporting the current time accurately.

Yet, I will admit, I am a gadget freak. Intrigued when my daughter gave me my birthday present a month or so early.  A iWatch to pair with my iPhone.  No t what I needed, not another gadget, a gimmick.

Well I was wrong🥺

It can be a tool, at 70 this stage of life is a real challenge, especially after loosing companionship of your partner of 46 yrs. Then being diagnosed with cancer! It would have been easy to slink off into my home, pull the curtains and sit away my day.
Instead, my  iWatch monitoring my activity, nagged me to move, monitored heart rated,!measured calories used(sort of),  advised of msgs, allowed me to accept calls while the phone not on my person.

But, mostly it was my nag, reporting steps, stairs, stand time, etc.    so I competed with myself to be as active today at least as active as the previous.

Today, maybe, just maybe, I still doing good, still moving!  Survived three bouts with cancer, and currently two periods of awl clears.

It is a GOOD GADGET! 👍

Right up there with all my FRIENDS at MTo🌹❤️🌹❤️

Im definitely a gadget freak too Gordon!   Actually I have all I can manage with the G Shock watches I have.  I usually hand them off to my boys to help me out.

I have friends that are pushing me to get one, or a Garmin version, with all the outdoor activities I do.  I just might take them up on it.

Sounds like you’ve had a pretty tough time there mate, glad you’ve been able to get through it and make the most of life :hatsoff:

I’ve been considering an iwatch for a while, may pull the trigger on one at some point
