I'm gonna be a couple days off the start here. My Spirit is gonna be delivered October 2nd.   Currently it's 80 miles away in a USPS facility.  :P

Day 0

Here's my Spirit (I believe an XC? Scissors and butterblade).

Likely it is an XC.  It is the same tool as the "Swisstool Spirit" (OG), but has the newer logo.  According to SAKWiki, the XC was discontinued in 2019/2020, so at this point we can assume that the logo change was prior to that.  Does yours have the shield engraved in the plier head?

It does not. I think (tang is smaller so it's harder to tell) it has the late aught style tang stamp with the taller V and wider Swiss Made.

Well, this has been on my mind🤪,  Was not certain I would be home in time to start but had hoped to follow.
Returned late last night from travels, and gathering thoughts and laundry this beautiful morning and enjoying “My Coffee in my mug”, and pulled out my Butter blade for a contribution.
So with caution to the wind I am trying 60 days on my favorite site to share.

So I am in!!!

*Day 1*

Little guy needed help to open his lollipop this morning, Spirit MXBS comes to the rescue.  I've always considered Spirit best-in-class MT for years, and now with the one hand opening blade, the best just gets better.

Thanks BPR!

I haven't noted any differences in tang stamps across the Spirits I've owned over the years, only the handle stampings.  My OG Spirit and latest MX Clip appear to have the same tang stamp.

:iagree:  I'm not a fan of belt pouches.  One-hand opening and the pocket clip have completely changed my use of the Spirit.  The MX has been kicking the multi-layered SAKs out of my pocket in the couple of weeks that I've owned it.

How're people liking the OHO now that we've had some time with it? I know it got a lot of poor impressions when it first came out. That's part of the reason I tried to lock down a XC before they all disappeared/got stupid expensive.

Day 1

And so it begins.... finally! Been looking forward to this one since announced.  Here are the variants I am going to carry for the next 60 days.  I am also going to carry one of the Alox models to supplement missing tools on the particular version ( i.e. Farmer X when carrying the MXBS since it lacks a saw; Pioneer X when carrying either "S" version,  which is my favorite,  since these lack scissors; and finally a Solo when carrying the Clip or my second favorite Butter blade). I might acquire and XBS before the end of this challenge and will add it if I do.  I had one and the tools were all loose so I returned it. Funded some other models,  including the three Alox here and I am banned from ordering anything until November, LOL. Oh, I am also going to carry one of two Wera bit adaptors so that I can drive 1/4 fasteners. The two bit kits, L driver or ratchet and corkscrew might also make an appearance, but I do not usually sheath carry these and that is too many extras for my pockets. Will see as this could change over the next 2 months and plenty of time to experiment and try things out. I could see making a small pouch that includes everything and some common sockets that I need too.

Thank you Barry for coordinating this one!!!! Looking forward to reading all the posts and seeing all the pictures!!

Oh, and Truman is one of my pups who is supportive of this effort. I will check in with Reggie later to get his thoughts.

I prefer the non-OHO versions myself. I don't like the little tab as much as the other Spirits I have. I have never had an issue opening the blades without it. I also prefer not losing any cut capacity that the tab introduces. Not that this has impeded anything for me,  but still like having full use of the blade.

Day 1 of 60

Started challenge with PE bladed Spirit, i kinda wanna get MX version of this, maybe i wait till Victorinox introduces Butterblade OHO someday. But i really need to get pocketclip for this. So first task today was opening battery comparment of my Peltor, so i could change batteries to it. Second picture is just my daily carry with Spirit.

Anyone got good advice for pouch/pocket organizer for wrench and bits, i have Spirit+ pouch but i find very uncomfortable to take out tool itself when wearing gloves cause it goes so deep in pouch.
I carry Spirit in my pocket or my Gerber sheat ( same nylon sheat what comes on Center-Drive) vertical carry naturally for lower carry. I dont wanna put my bitset and wrenches on it since those makes taking tool out too difficult.

I've never had and issue with opening the non-OHO blades either, but if a blade on a plier-based MT is not OHO, for my uses it is always a secondary blade to others I'm carrying.  The clip + OHO changes that by greatly increasing the convenience of blade access so that with the tool clipped to my dominant-side (right) front pocket, it becomes my main blade, with a secondary riding in the bottom of my left pocket.  I don't care one bit that the blade is 3mm shorter than the non-OHO blades, because my secondary blade provides a larger one if needed.  With the design of the OHO blade, requiring it to be on the opposite side of the handle for right-handed OHO, it was required to shorten it due to the plier head subframe being slightly longer on that side.  The tab does indeed reduce cut capacity for slicing, but, again, I have a backup for that for items larger than what the Spirit blade will handle.

An L. Shield Skinth should work well, and allow better access for gloves.  The loadout below is Spirit plus L-wrench but I think it would work fine for the ratchet as well.  Another option would be to buy a clip for the Spirit so it is easy to access from your pocket and find a small pouch just for the ratchet and bits.

I counted only 10 day one posts of the 19 members who signed up???

Also, those posting should include a day your picture post representing, Day 1 or Day 1 of 60 or Day 1/60 or etc etc…
If I start and end the day above ground, it is a good day!

Hope yours is as good!

Happy kitty!

Although as you point out the Spirit scissors aren’t Vics normal awesome design, I find the Spirit scissors work good on tougher materials like cordage and zipties.

Cheers!
Great use!

Day 1:

Great first and now second day for some awl!  Busy day I’ve got some catching up on some of the informational posts. Looks like some interesting reading. Great group here.

I begin each challenge with a hearty breakfast. I cleaned and sanitized the butter blade Spirit for just such occasion. Best bread knife I’ve ever used.

Lots of random chores and some bigger jobs coming up I hope the Spirit will get good use. I’m going to try to catalog each tool use. I use my Spirits frequently and have an idea about usage, but never any proper data collection.

Edit: it’s been a long day and several uses without pics. Forgot I used the pliers and Philips moving a tip kit as we repositioned sone cabinets and racks in our kitchen for a dishwasher.  This will continue more this week. And, forgot I used the saw to remove some overgrowth. Probably forgetting more.

Tools used thus far:
serrated blade x1
