How're people liking the OHO now that we've had some time with it? I know it got a lot of poor impressions when it first came out. That's part of the reason I tried to lock down a XC before they all disappeared/got stupid expensive.
I've never had and issue with opening the non-OHO blades either, but if a blade on a plier-based MT is not OHO, for my uses it is always a secondary blade to others I'm carrying. The clip + OHO changes that by greatly increasing the convenience of blade access so that with the tool clipped to my dominant-side (right) front pocket, it becomes my main blade, with a secondary riding in the bottom of my left pocket. I don't care one bit that the blade is 3mm shorter than the non-OHO blades, because my secondary blade provides a larger one if needed. With the design of the OHO blade, requiring it to be on the opposite side of the handle for right-handed OHO, it was required to shorten it due to the plier head subframe being slightly longer on that side. The tab does indeed reduce cut capacity for slicing, but, again, I have a backup for that for items larger than what the Spirit blade will handle.
I haven't really followed the comments on the Spirit OHO tab, but why would anyone have a poor impression on that? Yes, there will be trade off--which in some way reduce the 'effective' cutting edge of the knife, but on the other hand, we gain the OHO function and it is so easy to operate even with gloves.
I feel like there were a lot of complaints about it not working that well, and being a big pocket snag. Like anything else, it's probably 3 or 4 people loudly complaining for every 100 people getting along just fine and not saying anything.
An L. Shield Skinth should work well, and allow better access for gloves. The loadout below is Spirit plus L-wrench but I think it would work fine for the ratchet as well. Another option would be to buy a clip for the Spirit so it is easy to access from your pocket and find a small pouch just for the ratchet and bits.(Image removed from quote.)
i have thinking to get that L-shield but it seems bit overkill just for my Bitset & Wrench since i mostly carry my all multitools on that Gerber sheat since it has best vertical carry i have ever tried, all other sheat comes too high to be comfortable to use. So far only gerber pouch is just gine to use. Tho i could just put that L-shield in my pocket but it really beat purpose of that sheat.Only Tools Matters
The MX model is the stainless tool with the OHO blade. It has the same tool selection as the X model. There is an MX Clip model as well with OHO blade and pocket clip.Stainless clip: 3.0240.B1Black Oxide clip: 3.0240.3B1There are several pictures in this thread of the clip and the OHO blade.
My apologies, I thought you were asking for a pouch that carried the Spirit with the wrench and bits. I agree that a Skinth shield would be overkill for just the wrench and bits, but you might possibly like something in the Pocket series (M7, B5, P1, P2, P3, etc.).
M7 seems to be right one to get for Bitset & Wrench, looks perfect size for purpose.Only Tools Matters
Day 2 of 60 Today use chisel to open lots of packages at work, this tool works really well to compared to blade.(Image removed from quote.)Only Tools Matters
Day 2 It cooled off but now we’re in a warm spell. That always means ants inside, so setup the last ant stakes of the season. [ Quoting of attachment images from other messages is not allowed ] While outside I removed a busted hand rail to some old stairs with the pliers. Had to saw into the wood a bit to split it to keep from damaging the already messed up siding. Day 2I have a pedalcizer at work. For some reason, the pedals have these little straps that don't fit adult feet and mostly just get in the way. Phillips and butter blade removed them. For comparison, I tried one of the screws with the MP600 I keep at work. The longer reach on the Spirit driver was much easier (although the Phillips is kind of a pain to deploy. Might just need broken in?). The butter blade went through the rubber like... butter. I was really impressed by how easily it made it through.
