As far as using Garage release tools go, I’m not against it as long as I can repair it.  I’ve wanted to carry a Tom Sachs ever since I got them.  Just swap the blade and go.   When the Darkside came out it was the perfect opportunity.

Built on a platform that I know inside and out, it was a go.  I didn’t like the blue on black color choice though so I went with handmade scales and I couldn’t be happier.

That said, I wouldn’t use one if I didn’t have something cherry for the shelf.

I had a look at the Garage release #3 on videos.  I don't think this was made to use.  How the blade is attached it seems unsafe.   :dunno:

With this release I am becoming more convinced LM doesn't think anyone will use these Garage tools, plus they aren't offering a warranty.  This to me further demonstrates them possibly NOT wanting anyone to use these.  The limited runs as well are pushing me to feel more confident in these tools being purely for the collectors.  That is not a bad thing.

This #3 release seems rushed or .  I'm really confused with this knife.

All Garage tools are covered by a 25 year warranty.  They just can't replace broken tools.  Instead, you get a full refund.

Appreciate the clarification on that.  I am stoked collectors are happy.  I am also looking forward to whats next.  Mini MT?  I can't help but feel MTO modders have had some amazing ideas over the years.  LM has no shortage of things to poach.  I'd love to see blade exchanger with a whole tool set that fits in.  They can ditch the scissor and make one to fit the BE.  They can also do a scribe, awl, chisel, exacto type blade, etc.  Make it fit the Wave frame or Free series.

They have a huge reference here on MTO of what folks want but might not have to tools to do.

Over the years for those who watch ALONE tv show we've seen the proliferation of MTs used.  Many have been modded as well.  This season I've not seen as many fixed blades as in years past.  The Signal was a nice move.  Then we had people making hammers to fit.  There seems to be no shortage of very creative minds at work outside of LM.

Be neat to see some of the best modders in that Garage creating the next releases.  LM you're welcome.  The collectors would snap those up just as fast.  Like Vic does with their art on SAKs.  They take submissions and hold contests.

Yeah it seems like LMs are now the default on Alone, the winner of last year even won with a Free P2 or P4, I was shocked to see it instead of a Surge, Wave, or Charge.

Its interesting thats for sure.  I recall conversations about survival gear and nearly all said no one needs a pliers.  Nearly all talked about a survival fixed blade.  The other tools can be very useful when modded to your specifications.

Its neat to see the MT sheaths on hips on most if not all participants.

Do those custom scales hold up if you drop thectool on a hard surface

If they're g10 they won't explode or anything, but it'll get scuffed up like most things would, with the exception you can't polish it out as easily as with metal.

They hold up just as much as any other stabilized wood scales or g10 scales.  These edges are rounded so it could be structurally stronger actually.  Hard to say, I don’t drop my tools often, but I do toss them down as I’m using them without worry.

From what I've seen the metal part that the blade connects to will scratch, chip, damage.  G10 is tough stuff but can become damaged from a drop.

Do you have one?  Will you be using it?  I'd love to hear your thoughts after some time with it, please.

Are you referring to Darkside G10, or custom scales made from G10 material?

Ah.  Unfortunately, mine hasn’t shipped yet so I cannot elaborate on that one.

In case someone wanted Batch 003, looks like it's available on the garage site.

Yea, I don’t know what the deal is, but I think the in-stock is new as of today.  Maybe some “return to senders” or general returns?
