New Volty Bit: THE SWITCH.
on: June 26, 2023, 03:49:08 PM
Hey everyone!

Finally we have a new bit that checked all the boxes we wanted:
  • DC Volts down to AA and AAA batteries
  • Continuity Tests
  • AC Volty
  • EMF Detection
  • Spark Plug Detection
  • HVAC Temps
  • Self Charging Battery when testing batteries above 3V
  • Bomb Proof Switch w/Gold Plated Contacts
  • Keychain Storage Sheath

It's been quite a journey and we hope you like the features.

We are building these things at our shop on our pick and place machine, Hand painting the epoxy layer, it's a pretty fun process.

The gold shank / probe layer has also been upgraded to a hard gold / nickel hybrid.

We were worried about the Switch being a weak point but then found a high quality made in japan switch that we abused the heck out of to make sure this is a really durable tool.

Same with the rechargeable battery, it's also Japanese (Seiko).

This is really cool!  I especially like the HVAC feature.

As a forgetful guy, I have a suggestion for your product - print a short URL on the tool that leads to the instructions... or maybe make a small QR code sticker that I can stick to my tool or a case.

We are including these business card sized quick guides with a QR code on them (Attached).

I might use your sticker idea, thanks!

I'm a facilities guy at the local YMCA and use my volty regularly. There's always door alarm and smoke detector batteries that need checked, and I carry a Leatherman Surge with the volty in it for this purpose. I also use it for larger batteries in the golf carts and other things whenever possible.

I'm definitely excited about this new product and want to try it out!

Couldn't stand it any longer so I have one on the way. Not only do I see using this at work literally on a daily basis, but my son and I are always playing with vehicles too giving me lots of opportunities at home to use it as well. This is a huge step from the original which I liked, but now the original seems like just a novelty compared to the switch.

I can do a review if anyone is interested.

Totally interested  :salute: I don't mess with electrical things much and probably won't get one but I can definitely see the need for something small and portable like this for someone who does have a need for one :woohoo: :like: :like:

:iagree: I ordered one as well. I’ll comment on its use but I won’t have time for a full review. Would be interested in your take Craig.

I had not heard of the Volty, but what a great idea!  I don’t need AC or some of the other measurements (will get out the DMM for that) but the original that can measure DC voltage will come in handy, so I ordered that one!  Can’t wait to try this out with my Charge TTi.

Not sure what's going on, but I received tracking info for my order. It said USPS picked it up on June 28, but then.............  ? I emailed them and haven't heard back.  :pok:  Even a "hey sorry that sucks" reply would have been nice.  :(

Sure hoping all of a sudden it'll show up. Otherwise I'm out almost 50 bucks.

I ordered one also. It'll keep me from having to dig out a dimm for battery and continuity

So I called today and this company seems pretty awesome. They're taking care of the issue and hopefully soon I can put this to the test. I'll let everyone know what happens.

Received mine this week (last week?). Can’t recall but haven’t had the time to take any pictures.  It does work as advertised for batteries, including the new 1.5V. Tested it on the smoke detector batteries as it was chirping and the new one. I may have some time tonight to play around with it more.

Hope you all get yours soon. I think it’ll be a handy piece of kit.

Did you receive yours yet? USPS sure is cheap for domestic, we might have to switch providers. We will make sure everyone gets theirs no matter what!

Got some pics yesterday testing on a 9V, AA, and AAA. Works just like version 1. Very happy to have the added 1.5V capability. Confirmed it with my multimeter but forgot to take a pic.

Also tested the EMF function and confirmed with a NCVT .  Interestingly it is sensitive enough to pick up a wiring behind the wall. There is no Sheetrock here it’s very old wood paneling.  Top is plugged in power supply and bottom is penetration test.

I couldn’t get the temp test to work, but I think I didn’t wait long enough for it to detect a change? I’ll have to retest it. Haven’t tried the other functions, but am digging the fuse test function idea.

Nice pictures!

For the temperature test, the switch will wait for a 10F change after it is turned on (If Auto Tempy is used). You can also force a temperature reading by shorting the tip while turning on and releasing at the 4th blink.

Got mine yesterday and fitted it to my signal. Will be using this in place of my DMM as much as possible today, I’ll try to grab some pics of it in use!

I updated the indicator charts to make reading operation more clear.

Got in a 40th anniversary tool as well. New bit holder seems to hold the bit nicely. I wonder if this is going to be used on the ARC and other future tools?

I have been working on my review for a while, but I'm kind of a perfectionist and I keep changing and adding to it. I'm also in the process of switching jobs and that's definitely not adding any free time to my schedule. However I did want to say that this updated version is GREAT and I use it constantly. From daily repair jobs at the Y, to evening vehicle tinkering in the garage, to checking mom's remote control batteries for her, it's amazing how much I use this thing.

There are a couple cons I've come up with but once I post them I'm thinking we can come up with solutions. The pros vastly outweigh them anyway, so this little tool is on my highly recommended list.

Already looking forward to more improvements and/or offerings from this company!
