Traveller Lite
on: July 11, 2023, 03:09:19 PM
I haven't posted much here lately but, having had a few days away around the place, thought I'd just take the time to give a positive thumbs up to the Traveller Lite. It has actually proved to be a surprisingly versatile Alarm Clock toolset and has saved my bacon on a couple of really early starts.

The combination of a timepiece into the scales of a SAK is, on the face of it, a bit mad. But it has been a handier toolset than I expected for travel. It's been good for all the usual instant things you need in a SAK and the screwdriver/ miniscrewdriver  (maybe even the torch) are there if you need them.

So, a quirky SAK but one I've come to appreciate all the more lately.

I recently got a Huntsman lite after thinking I wouldn't be missing out much not having a light on a SAK considering I carry one of my keys, how wrong was I
Love it and found it really useful already, plus inline philips  :woohoo:

I bought a Traveller Lite purely as a collectors' item, mainly because of the scales.
Being a discontinued model, I ended up buying a spare almost immediately, when I realised I'd so often be carrying the first!

I believe this one is also the favourite of Carl Elsener Jnr.

"Quirky" is an accurate summation. The thicker front scale on my Altimeter took a little getting used to, as did the short tweezers in the back scale. But it's a neat SAK with some good engineering. Adding a clock to the electronics was a good move, as it gives you an additional function (that is incredibly useful) with no increase in thickness or weight.

I will admit that the barometric function also really appealed to me but, in practice, it has been a bit of a let down. I'd much rather have a reading of the pressure and an up down arrow type thing but it is what it is and it will tell you the trend which is probably the important thing. I have a couple of Casio Pro Treks and try as I might I can't get them to read the same barometric pressure

To be fair my picture also rather oversells the effect of the torch which is probably just slightly better than a lit match. But if you're travelling in Far Far Away anything is better than nothing.

And last but not least the jelly red scales really appeal to me. :dd:
