About a week ago I purchased from a government surplus store here in England a 2018 Black oxide MP600 with a U.S made sheath with malice clip for molle attachment , it was second hand but unused with no box but it did have a user guide and torq wrench for the carbide cutters. I’d been after a sheath like this for ages.

Now I have a few Mp600’s ranging from 2015 - 2022 manufacture and all have the same user guide except this one in the US made sheath.

This photo is the standard user guide showing both side

And here is the one that came with the US made sheath

One thing I’ve noticed is on the last one it’s only in English while all the other user guides have other languages on them. It also explains how the malice clip works and the thing that surprised me was it advised adjusting the pivot bolts as the tools gets worn and loose ( never seen this before ).

Ok my theory is that this was U.S military issue ( hence why only in English ) and wondered if anyone can confirm this. There is two large U.S.A.F bases in my area and often kit gets sold by servicemen to the govt surplus shops which are better known here as Army and Navy stores.

That's very interesting Dunc, and a sound theory.

I don't have any info to add, but I'm sure someone will be along soon enough to help!

Thanks Def , I thought it was interesting but considering how many thousands of military personnel have been issued these tools you would have thought there would be a bit more info via a Google search etc.

I've always thought we should do an Ultimate MP600 list and update the Multitool Encyclopedia with the findings.

I figure with the number of military members we have here, and each of them posting what they got and when, we could fill  up a list pretty quick!

I was issued a PST back in the late 80's which was duly lost/pilfered whilst on excercise  :'(

I'm not sure the British army issue any type of MT anymore (not sure we have any type of weapon these days)

I only have my Pro Scout which was Gov't issue (not military) but even that is too expensive for new recruits  ::)
They don't like it up 'em!

Thanks Surge that’s interesting , may I ask what Government agency issued the Pro Scout ? When I was in HM Coastguard they issued MP400’s to rope rescue teams and they also started to issue suspensions as well.

You may indeed ask. It was HMRC (not sure if HMCE issued it prior to that?) Then I got one when I crossed to the dark side from another dept many moons ago.

We were UK Border Agency (UKBA) at the time, then Border Force (BF) They were awl unmarked

The last MT I saw issued to new recruits looked like a Gerber Suspension/Truss  That said I don't think they issue those anymore either and most just get a lock knife (but they have to be trained in its use first, really )

They don't like it up 'em!

And here I thought it was bad that we needed chainsaw lessons here.

Now you mention it I can remember seeing HMRC guys with Gerber sheaths , at the time I just presumed they were personal kit. That’s really interesting thanks. At work my path sometimes crosses with Border force so if the opportunity arises I’ll see if they still get issued anything

I’ve heard several people moan about my companies chainsaw course. Apparently loads of people fail it.

I suppose it is better to fail a chainsaw course rather than a chainsaw activity....   :ahhh

But I still am annoyed by the idea that a country full of Lumberjack hockey players needs training to handle a chainsaw!

That sheath is US-made so as to be Barry compliant, and available for purchase through federal channels. That may be the reason for the unusual manual, as well, which wouldn’t be included in their normal line of tools.

“Berry” compliant actually  :pok:
Anyway. This keeps money in the US as it supports the market during war, etc. Just in case anyone wanted to know what it meant :tu:
If I remember correctly, wait, what was I saying?
