Vosteed is my favorite knife company right now, if you catch me fan girling there's a reason. This newish company never ceases to amaze me, whether it be customer service, attention to detail or the community it has developed. I'd like to think all of our big companies out there used to be like this, it's a model I hope they continue to use. Today we're checking out the Vosteed Corgi, it's just as cute as it sounds and won't mess up the carpets.
The Corgi is a very symmetrical Trek Lock folder that is an easy carry for both righties and lefties. Having a handle length of 4.8", a blade length of 2.99", and an overall of 7.17", it fits nicely in that mid-sized carry category. Picking up the Corgi, the first thing you notice is the symmetrical handle. With so much time and attention going to ergonomics these days, it's nice for someone to throw an elongated oval out there and declare, yes this is comfortable. Frankly is it comfortable, even though it's devoid of any curves I find I'm able to get a good grip. I'm able to get all four fingers on the handle and even though it's missing jimping on the spine, I don't miss it. The unbroken lines, smooth micarta, and symmetry make this knife feel classy.
The blade on the Corgi is a drop point and made with 14C28N. The high flat grind makes cutting smooth and there's a fine enough point for those detailed draw cuts. The blade is almost a spear point in shape, keeping the tip pretty close to center. I found deploying the blade to be really snappy, I was skeptical at first due to the difference in the flipper tab. These flipper tabs (yes tabs) are on both the top and bottom. I'm use to a light switch style flipper, and just now starting to get used to front flippers. The Corgi's mirrored appearance translates to the flipper tabs as well, making a "T" shape when the knife is closed. Due to the very short travel of the flipper, this knife fires out with a authoritative snap.
The Trek Lock is a joy to use and goes really well with the visual aesthetics that Vosteed was going for. The addition of a copper accent on both sides of the knife really add to the classy feel. I'm already starting to build a patina on the copper and it's going to look nice as it develops. The pocket clip is Vosteed's deep carry clip that's standard on all of their models, however is not able to be switched to left hand carry. I've been carrying two knives lately and with the Corgi clipped to my left pocket I'm still able to draw and flick the blade open with my left hand.
I'm super impressed by the Corgi, it's comfortable, stylish as heck and a joy to use. I feel it's a great knife for someone who's looking for an everyday carry blade, but looking to class it up a notch. Vosteed's quality and attention to detail is shown throughout the design.
