Where do you keepbyour ResQMe or other rescue tool?
on: August 02, 2023, 03:40:36 PM
I got Megan a new ResQMe tool for her car because we have no idea where her old one got to.  Of course, mine is where it always is, hanging from the top of my Jeep windshield, accessible to both driver and passenger, and unlikely to move much in the event of an accident.

This got me to wondering where everyone else keeps their ResQMe, or what other self-rescue type tools do you prefer, and where do you keep them?

Hanging from the rear view mirror. Which is illegal in California
I really need to move that thing. I did end up replacing my ResQme after several years as the heat eventually degraded the plastic housing. Something to watch out for.

When I was traveling a lot for business I kept one on my keychain and just removed it when I went through TSA and checked it in. If anyone wants to do the same thing I suggest just pulling it out rather than removing it entirely from the key chain and wrap or bag it when checking in. Learned the hard way that small blade can still cut.

Great thread!

Florida has a lot of water, and a fair number of cars end up in it.  Both cars have a glass breaker on the visor and a seatbelt cutter/glass breaker on the shulder belt.

That second pic looks like a CRKT ExiTool.  I didn't know anyone else in the world had one!

Nice!

I don't know what it's called, I just know the sound it makes when it saves a man's life.   I had totally forgotten where we got them.

As you can see, I added a custom piece of duct tape to prevent them from popping off the belt.

That is definitely a good sound!

I always thought it was a bit clunky so I don't think I ever got around to clipping it to my seat belt.  If you say it's good though, I may have another look at it.

Ours are clipped to the shoulder part of the belt, but we slide them down by the buckle.  The idea being that you can locate it quickly.  The clip is not perfect and we nearly lost one of them, so I run a thin strip of tape around the part of the latch that sticks out.  It's enough to keep it closed, but slides off pretty easily.

Yeah, I like that it attaches to the seat belt for just that reason.  In my Jeep there are multiple spots to put something like my ResQMe, but not so much in "normal" cars.

What is the green one you have?

I like that green on, looks like a nice good grip, that and the window break,, here’s mine, just something simple with a bottle opener, three hex keys, and a small screwdriver tip,,

I'm with Fireman on this one  :tu:

My StatGear rides in the top-box on my bike wrapped around a mini toolkit to make it easier to find.

I don't think I'll ever need to be cut free from my bike unlike the recently departed (and much loved) Mr Loaf

"Then I'm down in the bottom of a pit in the blazing sun. Torn and twisted at the foot of a burning bike"

However, I may be of some assistance to someone else  :dunno:

I still have an old school life hammer.

I should replace it as I am wondering about effectiveness in the confines of a vehicle, and if injured.
