Some fantastic fixies, y'awl! :tu:

I'll play, too. This one doesn't have any great history, but it was pulled out of the mystery box. It's a CRKT Civet, and it's been getting some carry time lately.

Nice CRKT Farmer X!   :like: :tu: :tu:

Great stuff, y'awl! :tu:

Here's something different for Fixed Blade Friday: a Rough Ryder miniature Spanish notch Bowie. It's more of a novelty than a user, but it is usable up to a point. The 91mm SAK is for scale.

Thanks.  I used gutted paracord to keep it thin while also giving a little extra grip.

How about some old Mora Knives for Fixed Blade Friday? No original sheaths in sight. The "big" one was in bad shape when i bought it at a flea market. Rusted, missing tip, loose handle and dull as a butter knife.. I could go as far as calling it one of my hobbies to buy and restore old tools that were made to be used for lifetimes but have been neglected. When i see a rusted, dull, quality tool beeing sold for a bargain i cant resist taking it home and giving it some love... The small one had never been used but both were missing their sheaths. I made the birch bark sheath myself but the leather sheath was from a cheap "tourist" knife that fit the mora perfectly.

Morakniv still makes these shapes of knives and is what we in sweden call the "real" Morakniv. There were several blacksmiths making this type of knife back then but they were all forged in the Municipality of Mora. Its the knife that started it all and what would essentially become the brand that we all know by now. They are cheap, super comfortable barrel shaped handles that fit every grip you can imagine and lightweight knives with a scandi grind. If youve never held one of these i suggest you get your hands on one. The simplicity and the fact that the design hasnt changed in centuries speaks for itself imo.

91mm SAK for size comparison. (SwissChamp)

Absolutely!! I found these images that explain the process fairly straight forward.
You have to begin with a piece that is a bit wider than the knife blade by maybe 1cm and four times the lenght, plus some so the knife wont poke through, in order to fold to piece by the middle and then fold the ends inwards by the middle again.
Then you need strips, they dont have to be birch bark. You can use split roots or even some cordage if you want. Start by placing the strip in between the layers you formed by folding the bigger piece as in the picture. Then you alternate by making one pass on the "inside" layer and one pass "outside". This is were you can get creative aswell. Make half passes, double passes, alternate with half, full and double maybe. As long as you make turns both inside and outside in order to "weave" the sheath shut. It will get tighter and more difficult to get the strips through the "inside" layers the further up you come the sheath so a pair of pliers to pull and something to push the strip through is usefull.
Hope this helps and feel free to ask if something is unclear.

Examples of what they can look like with split roots or thread. I noticed these dont seem to have the same amount of "inner" passes as i explained and look simpler so i guess you can get even more creative with your design.

This was my favorite fixie when I got it last year.  The problem is they are all my favorite knives when I first get them.
This one really does have a lot of features that make it a top contender for the quintessential EDC fixie.  A functional shape and size, a good sheath, and it is exceptionally comfortable in the hand.

My favorite fixed blade.  Stopped by ACE yesterday to buy some range parts.  Pegboard over the big windows in front.  I thought it was closed.  Might as well have been.  Only one other customer in store.  Business is in the commode.  Looked at the knives.  There were two big CASE display cabinets.  Only about 8 or 9 CASE knives that nobody wanted and one Victorinox.  They used to sell Boy Scout Vics.  The Vic was labelled as 'Scout'.  It was an ordinary 84mm Recruit.  Priced at $39.95.  Ouch.  There used to be a lot of knives in the store.  Thieves stole most of the CASE knives.  They have done it in every store in the area with CASE.  Thieves left the Chinese Uncle Henry alone and the BEAR cabinet.  When those finally sold out, the owner didn't restock.  What is left are unpopular models and priced high. Might have been the very last Victorinox in the town?  Best wishes.  G
