Sad to hear about the poor state of the knife displays at your local shops.  I was a small business owner myself and the thieves do take a toll.  That's a great knife you were carrying though, and I hope you're getting a lot of good use out of it.

I've been doing most of my cutting with a utility knife for the challenge this month, but I've been carrying the Bradford 3.5 in my back pocket for the few things that a utility knife just can't do such as cutting back some thin branches sticking out of my hedges. Here's an older pic because I didn't feel like taking a new one.

:woohoo: It's Fixed Blade Friday again!  Today, supplementing the utility knife for the December challenge I have the ESEE Izula II carried horizontally in a surplus Bradford sheath.  Funny thing is I prefer to carry my Bradford vertically in a Loveless style sheath.

Nice pix, Alan.  I haven't really done anything much with the Kizer yet.  I have been carrying some sort of Leatherman mostly this week.  Best wishes.  G

I am very fond of my Izula II. Unfortunately, I forgot I wanted to get a photo of it for today.

This is my current fixed blade that I picked  up from the Surprise Box GAW.

It's a SOG Instinct.  It's small enough to carry on the back of my belt.

That SOG is a good looker.  Smaller fixed blades are so handy.  Bigger ones are fine if you have a pack or are outdoors, but a pain getting in and out of cars, etc.  Plus you get strange looks in a store.  Best wishes.  G

You have to learn how to wear a fixed blade knife so it doesn't get hooked up on the back of a chair or snag a seatbelt when getting out of a car.  Also, an EDC fixie needs to be an appropriate size.  For me the golden ratio is close to 7 inches with a 3 inch blade and 4 inches of handle.  If I have to go smaller I'd rather sacrifice blade length over a comfortable handle.  The SOG Instinct is about as small as I'd go because I want my EDC fixie to be a substitute for a folding knife and be able to do anything that I would otherwise do with folder.  I wear horizontal sheaths towards the front, closer to my belt buckle as a cross draw and vertical sheaths either just in front of my back pocket on my strong side, or over my back pocket where I can put the bottom of the sheath in the pocket so that it is completely concealed by my untucked shirt.  Some sheaths I have on a dangler so they fall completely into my back pocket with only a bit of the knife handle sticking out and on rare occasions I wear a neck knife in or outside of my shirt.  I like my belt knives to have a lanyard hole so I can slip my little finger through a small loop of paracord to help draw and retain the knife.

Happy lamb stew Friday.  Wait a minute.  Let me look again....  Happy fixed-blade Friday.  The Old Hickory is certainly a fixie.  Did a fine job of cutting up the meat.  Didn't need a knife from there on.  Fork tender.  Mmmm.  Best wishes.  G

Switched knives for Fixed Blade Friday.  Had carried the Buck 113 for the last couple of weeks.  Now carrying the Izula II.
Apologies for the terrible picture.  Recently added ceiling fans with light kits to my office and it's much brighter in here. I can't seem to get the lighting just right for pictures yet.

This has been my go-to fixie when I want/need to carry one.  It's the SOG Instinct.  Even though it's small, it suits my needs just fine.  I picked it up from the Surprise Box GAW last year.

Trying to switch things up again by carrying something I haven't carried in a long time. The easiest way to carry the Mora Eldris is to drop it in a pocket, but I sometimes like to use a flashlight pouch on my belt that holds the Eldris right in its scabbard.  I paired it with the Spirit for today's (probably this week's) carry.  Thanks again to Dan for selling the Eldris to me a few years back.

I wasn't sure whether I had posted to this thread or not. Evidently I have.
My new fixed blade on my belt pack. The nice paracord rigging had to come off to accommodate how I wanted it to carry.
Best wishes.G

Save that paracord. You might be able to use it for something else that would benefit from a dangler.

Gotcha.  I have it rolled up in a little ball.  It is a little twisty but should work just fine.  I used a wee bit to keep the Gear Aid from flopping around.  I wanted a horizontal carry, so I took the clip and turned it 90 degrees.  Worked just fine.  The little bit of paracord will keep it on the belt if it gets knocked loose.  The blade on this thing is 3 inches.  I measured the other day.  I am not a big fan of the tanto tip, but not much I can do about it.  I gave the blade a few wacks on my Schrade steel.  Sharp enough.  There is a cap lifter and what I imagine is a glass breaker tip.  That's in case I ever want to open bottles and run amok breaking windows afterward.
Best wishes.  G

Fixie FRIDAY!

[ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]

CR 2.5,  a very functional non threatening fixie that I enjoy utilizing.

Today, walking the homestead and eliminating suckers sprouting from the tree trucks and branches that I can reach, about 7’ high. (I am 6’3”😉)

If I start and end the day above ground, it is a good day!

Hope yours is as good!

Like the ESEE CR 2.5.   :hatsoff:

My carry for Fixed Blade Friday, The Lionsteel H1.  This knife is very different from the Mora Eldris I've carried for the last week.  If I had to choose a single fixie to carry for the duration this would be a strong contender.

Happy Independence Day to all!  Haven't carried a fixie in days due to the Dean51 Challenge but I needed something more substantial than the Case mini trapper I had in my pocket, so I grabbed one of my Myerchin first generation rigging knives.  This one is the straight edge.  My other first gen has the partially serrated edge.
