Winter Magic 2023
on: September 15, 2023, 02:27:06 PM
Saw this on the victorinox sub-reddit:

Looks pretty awesome! I like the alox variations far more than the cellidor ones. Don't really know what it has to do with winter, but I'll most likely be getting it, depending upon cost.

I kind of like that it isn't as specifically winter themed as the snowflake motif on the 2020 Pioneer X was.  It means I could carry it year round without shame  :P

Would definitely need to grind off the keyring!  >:D

So this time it's a cadet. Very nice.

... Don't really know what it has to do with winter, but I'll most likely be getting it, depending upon cost.

The scales show an alpine panoramic view with glaciers. In winter these don't melt away as much as in summer, so let's praise them in winter while they are still here ... Some weird logic construction, I know.  Do you have a better fitting explanation?
Best regards and stay safe,

Wolfgang

Looks nice! Now let's hope Victorinox puts a reasonable price tag on that Cadet, like they did with the Winter PX (and as opposed to the precious Alox collection).

I kick myself that is didn’t get the green alox snowflake edition when I had the chance a few years back …I won’t make the same mistake on this one. Lovely design.

Well, I'm sold (Alox)  :woohoo:

When do they release these? I've not bothered previously
They don't like it up 'em!

I must be completely crazy and out of my mind, but this SE is probably the only one i've EVER even considered buying... Depending on the price, of course....  :ahhh

 :iagree:

I briefly considered the 2020 pioneer X winter magic, but it being so winter specific with the snowflakes I figured I’d not really use it.

This one, though, I’m very interested in. I hope the price is reasonable. I thought the pioneer x’s price was good considering it was a completely new scale design, not just a color (~$85 iirc), so hopefully this is similar, though likely more due to the money printing/inflation the last few years.

I really hope they don't make this a Cadet X. It's the only thing preventing me to get it (that and the price, I bet).

Oh i think there is almost zero chance of that bro..., unfortunately...
If they out this in the 50 to 70 euro area, max, i maybe think twice about it.... More than that i don't think i'd take the plunge...  :dunno:

What is the price ? I'm figuring at least $65 and I doubt it will be any less. $65 to $75 is my guess. I like it but not as much as the 2020 Winter Magic Pioneer X

I haven’t seen a price yet, but I’m not on Facebook so am not in any of the groups.

The 2020 pioneer X was ~$85 as I recall, so given there’s been the years of heavy inflation I’m guessing it could be in the ~$100 range.  :dunno:

Looks like a shop in the UK shows them in stock for £100

Wow....  :o
Around  €115.... Ok that settles it, absolute No Buy...I'm not THAT crazy...

I can buy a regular Cadet for €27,99..., i'm sure as hell not going to pay an extra €87 for a set of fancy alox scales.

Not sure how the VAT stuff works between the UK and EU. It shows £83.33 without VAT.

If I can get one in the US around the $100 mark I’m in for one. It’s crazy, but not as crazy as a $100 SAK used to be.

Same here.  I'm a Cadet collector, and I actually love the look of this knife.  And normally I'm sucked in by the Victorinox LE's, but this one is overpriced for me.  But it's super cool and gorgeous, so congrats to those who do manage to pick one up!

I won't be able to justify it if it's not fairly far south of $100.  Same as Myron, I wish those who want one all the best.  It's a beauty of a SAK.

Might be worth hanging on awhile those that are keen, me for one :)

I also collect cadets so going to be hard to resist but the LE 2022 Swiss Spirit cadet I paid way too much for when it came out is still available on Amazon for about half the price :dunno:

Thanks for the heads up lads

I cannot decide if I like this or not - It is very striking and unusual for sure - And as someone who loves mountains - I should love it -
Think I'm not too sure about the colours
I'm putting it in the nice but not amazing bucket!!

But a price of  £100 (that's about $120 US and $190 AUD) is crazy.
I guess it is the cost of the completely newly designed scales with multiple colours - that hikes the price?
I really don't like this almost predatory pricing from Vic these days - And they just seem to be aiming at collectors
What happened to the every day SAK for the regular guy on the street - What are you bringing out for him Victorinox ?   ???
Eg Regular Companion issue

PS. Great to see it's a Cadet - Weren't there all sort of rumours around last year abut the Cadet being withdrawn ?

I heard it's going to be $65 in the U.S. but have to wait and see. It's a true collectible more than a knife to carry. I will probably buy 2 or 3 if they are $65. These will increase in value a lot because of the unique Alox. I wish it was a Pioneer or Electrician. I'm not a huge fan of 84mm SAK's. They are too small and not as heavy duty as 93mm alox stuff. I'm almost exclusive with 93mm Alox stuff. I have sold off almost all my other stuff. I only have two 91mm SAK's and that's a black Compact and a L.E. 2017 White Christmas Explorer and I would trade them both for a great condition Yeoman. All I really want is a Yeoman and nothing else in 91mm. To me nothing touches 93mm Alox. I typically carry an old Alox Soldier and I have a Manager on my key ring and that seems to be optimal for me
