Well, Ron is not much of a SAK man...

It’s the prettiest Alox release ever IMO and I love them all  :dd:

(Image removed from quote.)

Great lineup showing all (?) the different varieties!

I agree the 2023 looks to be something special, but I will always have a soft spot for the red old-cross variety. :dd:

I like the 84mm knives so was hoping to get one of these at a Victorinox shop but missed out.

Found a couple in a well stocked tourist souvenir shop today.  Possibly have a spare for someone in UK if family / friend options decline.

Does anyone plan to actually carry theirs?

I bought two, largely with the idea that I could carry one if the mood struck and still keep one NIB.  It hasn’t happened yet, though, and may very well never happen…

The Cadet isn’t my favorite SAK, or even my favorite 84 mm SAK.  Moreover, I have a much more common red Cadet should I feel the urge to carry a Cadet (or need one for a challenge).

I just bought the Pioneer X LE 2023 as my first alox. I love it so decided I'd try a Cadet. "Unfortunately" that Winter Magic just came out and I managed to get one.
I definitely planned to use it as I dont buy to keep new.
But then I got a silver one for £24 and start actually doubting...

I bought two, thinking I'd have a user/carrier and one for the collection.  Then a week later I gave one to one of my best friend's as a birthday gift, so now I just have my shelf queen!

Shelf queen for me. I’ve got a silver one but actually carry my lovely worn green one the most

It was a long wait, but Santa came through  :woohoo:

This edition really is something special.  The colors and scale textures are just beautiful. It may very well cause me to break my “no shelf queens” rule.

Ever since I first saw the images of this knife, I thought the scale design seemed familiar but couldn’t put my finger on it.

Today I was looking at my copy of the hobbit (the “illustrated by the author” edition) and I realized it reminds me of Tolkien’s style.

What do you think?

I can see what you mean, but the palette used reminds me more of Hokusai…..

Very nice, Gustopher.  I can't help thinking that the Rudolf the Reindeer slippers with Red LED blinky noses would have been nice too.  I'm just saying.  Best wishes. G

Yeah, I can see that too. The style does seem close to that of the The Great Wave off Kanagawa. I wonder if Hokusai inspired Tolkien.

That is an awesome Christmas gift.

It is such a beautiful design.  I can see both the Tolkien and Hokusai influence.

One more reason for this to be a shelf queen AND to carry it.

So pretty….

Though I can’t help but wonder how the scales would look with a little wear on them.   >:D

Just curious as this edition has been out for about a year. Has any one been carrying and using it? I’d love to see what it looks like with some wear on the scales.

You mean that for someone somewhere  the  WM 2023 is not a shelf queen  :o :o :o

Joking aside I am always impressed when someone is using these highly collectable SAKs for their true purpose.   :salute:

I’ve seen a few used Damasci SAKs 👍

Yeah, I expect most are shelf queens, heck even mine has been so far (and I don’t do shelf queens). But a I think I remember a couple people saying they bought more than one so they could carry one.
