Slimming Down Leatherman Bit Driver Extender
on: November 27, 2023, 11:48:13 PM
Recently grabbed the Costco Skeletool deal and it's making my brain itch that the bit extender is just too thick to fit with the tool closed. Has anyone ever filed or sanded down the sides of the extender up to the knurling? Would it affect anything insofar as the reliability of the extender?

Honestly i recommend just stuck extender between carabiner jaws or when closed and bit removed just slide extender in, obviously it wont fully go in driver but around halfway and its usable. It looks like extender has slimmed parts actually to support second idea. Id rather not sand or grind extender.

Extender pushed between jaws.

Extender slided in top when closed.

Interesting. Does it stretch the carabiner sides at all? Or does it just slide down as far as it can go?

If you put through top it will stop on second notch right before extrnder goes full round. Picture shows what part it stops.

But if you just put fully in and and close Skeletool it will bit strech carabiners side but it doesnt actually affect usability of carabiner and it looks like they actually tought that when they made carabiner that is so open.
But if that concerns you i would use method where you just slide it o  top when Skeletool is closed, it still gives same usability as using it fully deep. And if you somehow manage break bitdriver with that technique you allready misused whole tool cause it needs quite force to break.
