Need tips for modding a knifeless rebar?
on: September 21, 2024, 10:57:21 AM
Hello
I would like to replace the awl in my knifeless rebar with a small flat screwdriver like in the original pst or the smallest one from
st300 eod...
Need a small flat screwdriver but no awl..

So what do I need to get it working and what parts/tools do I need?

If I'm not mistaken, you can get one from a junked/for-parts Fuse or Kick model and it will drop in without mods (or maybe minimal, like widening the lock stop), as they share the same pivot hole and are classed as 4" tools like the modern Rebar. I also think you'll have to run it where the thick spacer is, as  to not hinder the pliers from fully closing. Lets wait for someone more knowledgeable chime in.

Do you mean like this one? It's not quite finished but it is very nearly the Super Knifeless Rebar I intended.

The awl is a reprofiled Surge item, T-shank adapter is from a an ST300EOD and is heavily modified, I had to modify the lock to accept it, there is also a small flat screwdriver from a Fuse and a medium flat is a modded large flat from any older 4" tool cut down to fit UK electrical sockets and switches. All other parts are standard Rebar.
Next is to replace the fixed cross head with a bit adapter and reorganise the tools to add a Rebar saw.
A word to the wise, modding multitools is like smoking, once you start you will never get that monkey off your back.

Getting one off the Kick/Fuse/Blast is probably your best option. This site probably has them.

Hello
thanks everyone!

As I said, I just want to replace the awl with a small flat screwdriver..
Like the little one on pst..

The kick screwdriver looks great! Have to look for one like that..
Also have to buy the tools to unscrew it and get the tools there..
Which side should the screw be loosened on?

Is the small screwdriver the same size on both Kick and Blast?

Do you think the small screwdriver from Pst would fit?

The pivots should be the same, even as the Rebar's. Go to Ebay or Etsy and look for Leatherman parsing wrenches, and go for the cross/X shape or dog-bone shape ones as they come with all four sizes available from Leatherman. You'll need both, as not to damage the stationary/receiving/female end of the pivot screw. Do heat the pivot to break loose the thread locking compound if either tool has not been worked/modified on before. Remember "righty tighty, lefty loosey".  If you do not want to wait, you may do with a pair of locking needlenose pliers, but this can mar the knurling and/or surfaces. Do show pictures of the finished product!

It might fit, but will require work on the tang's end and notch for it to work properly.

I have no experience with those; haven't seen them before. See under the description it they mention any or all of these: Rebar, Charge Al, kick, Blast, Fuse, PST, etc

Sorry if it's a little bit off topic but I just saw a post on a facebook group with a modified Kick with some Rebar/Wave+ tools and those photos makes me want one!

This is from the original post: "The plier head, knife, file, can opener, large flat, and awl are all from the Rebar. The scissors, and bit driver are from a Wave+. And I Rit Dyed the liners black…"
And these are the pictures...

nu-i rău. rama veche si umplutura moderna. o șurubelniță mare ridică îndoieli cu privire la necesitatea ei
not bad. old frame and modern filling. big screwdriver makes me doubt its necessity

It will but you'll have to mod it slightly to fit the lock bar.

Here is a PST file mod to a Rebar

I'll chime in here as well. I can't say if the small screwdrivers in the Kick and Blast are the same (though I'd say it's very likely). However, I'd be happy to compare mine. There is a member here who made wrenches for the knurled Leatherman fasteners, but he's been forced to suspend sales due to sanctions. And shop around! €39.90 could probably get you two parts PSTs in the States if you have patience and a little luck.
