That's a big box for just 2 SAKs  :o   What did you get?

I know right.  It's a Farmer X and a Swiss Army 1.  The Farmer X will be used for parts for future projects and the Swiss Army 1 is being used in a build for a customer.  He wanted a 93mm with just a Dragonfly blade.  No other tools :dunno:

Very glad I did the challenge. Is there a Micra badge?

It's true that I no longer need to... or at least care to... be presentable.
I still have that need. And my goatee excepted, facial hair drives me batsmurf.

Still trying to iron out a few issues withe my Land Rover but it is a never ending story.
Same with Jeeps. Someone said a long time ago that Jeep stands for "Just Empty Every Pocket." :D There's at least some truth to that.

Day 30
The mighty Micra punches above its weight.
:iagree: And I will now share some final thoughts .

I don't recall what prompted me to purchase those first two Micras, but it was probably a desire to try something new. Mrs. FX liked hers quite a bit, especially the scissors. I'm sure there will be divergent views on the Micra scissors, but for me, they're one of the two weak links. That's especially true when one considers that the scissors are the central feature. Some sharpening and/or a different angle would make them much better for my cutting needs. Though I like the design and cutting action, you do have to be a little mindful about not getting your palm pinched.

The other weak link is the tweezers. They grab well enough. But they are a little more awkward to use than the sort that pull out of a scale. And, as I've noted previously, they seem rather flimsy. I'd be especially worried about bent tweezers on Micras with the cutout in the tweezers side scale. That's the one thing I'd like to see replaced...maybe with a can opener, if that's at all possible.

Everything else about the Micra is great. The blade handles small cutting jobs with ease. All the screwdrivers work well on fasteners that weren't "gorilla torqued." The cap lifter did its job pretty well . And the very effective file is paired with a tip that not only works well in its intended purpose, but can also handle a few light cutting tasks.

Though the Micra is a little small for my taste, I can see why it's so popular and enduring. It could probably handle 90% of my multi tasks, it's compact and unobtrusive, and it wouldn't cause severe heart palpitations for those who get freaked out by larger knives and multis.

And of course, it was my fellow challengers who made the whole thing great. A :hatsoff: to each and every one of you. I am pleased and honored to have been part of the inaugural Micra challenge.

Dreading the next 4 hours of back to back meetings....!!!
I don't blame you one bit. Thank you for hosting this great challenge!

My Day 30 photo and badge request will follow once my phone's battery has built up a bit more of a charge.

Micra supervised as two of my G-Shocks received the signal from the atomic clock in Colorado.  I'm about 1,300 miles away, and have found that I get a better signal when the G-shocks are on my Toyota Sienna.

Day 30

Thank you to gra_farmer for organizing this challenge!  The Micra is easily my favorite multitool, so I really enjoyed seeing it receive so much love.  Also, thank you to all who participated.  I didn’t comment a lot, but I read all of your posts.

As Farmer X mentioned above, I know there are different opinions on the Micra’s scissors, but to me they are the best in the multitool market.  For everything I use them on, they are perfect.  The Micra’s nail file and cleaner tool is also a perfect companion to the scissors that have cut miles worth of my fingernails.

For me, the Micra is an outstanding companion for most large multitools due to the excellent scissors and set of mini tools.  I normally pair the Micra with a larger multitool like a Skeletool CX or anything with a one-hand opening blade.

Since I love the Micra so much, why would I not carry it?  First, I don’t bother putting it in my pocket when I’m doing big jobs like yard work.  Second, I enjoy carrying traditional pocket knives, so I don’t carry the Micra when I have one of those in my pocket.  Finally, sometimes I need something lighter and thinner than the Micra, so I’ll carry a Vic Ambassador instead.

Here’s a parting shot of my (almost) daily companion for the last 5-ish years.  During this challenge, I have considered retiring it for a new one (I love the new colors) and putting it away with my original Micra from ’97.  Naw, still too soon.

DAY 30

IMG_5990.jpg
* IMG_5990.jpg (Filesize: 184.51 KB)

The two most frequent implements I utilize on my MICRA besides the scissors.

These two tools are the big plus of small tool packages.

The pick has been used to trace wires on a back plain of a  wiring channel, pick dirt and grime from under finger nails, file smooth a broken or cracked finger nail , and even file down a edge of a nail or screw that broke off on a board.

The smallest screw driver is perfect for tightening or connecting wires on micro wire blocks on equipment I maintained. The bottle cap lifter handled many cold ones without screw lids, and even overly tight jar lids, by lifting the edge to break the seal.

This Micra will be returned to its traveling case, for future trips, along with the style PS in an old medicine bottle.

My other MICRA is stored in the man cave upstairs were I do fine work and knife inspections and cleaning.  It is safely kept and carried in a Heritage sheath just to be stylish.

Thank you gra_farmer for organizing this challenge, from planning to leading and seeing through with the badge.   :hatsoff:  A GREAT JOB!

Congratulations to my fellow members that committed to  completing the 30 days, sharing your comments, pictures, pets and stories.  I was truly humbled being a small part of this challenge.

  :woohoo:  30 days! WOW

Ps: I  did miss not seeing MTSak and family catch trout in the northern BIG SKY COUNTRY🥲👋
If I start and end the day above ground, it is a good day!

Hope yours is as good!

Day 30

The Micra was the perfect tool to carry into the city today for trips to a food hall, shopping centre, and IKEA.
No use while out, but a Leatherman challenge classic just now - tightening the screws in the cutlery drawer runners.

It’s been a fun month. I haven’t had the Micra long, and it’s been paired with a bigger tool most days for work or in case I needed a saw or wire cutters.
In the end, I think the Micra’s done everything I’ve needed. I don’t remember ever reaching for a full size tool this month.

Thanks to Gra_Farmer for organising the challenge, and to everyone else for the pictures of their tools being used and carried!

Thanks to the team for some great pics and a good bit of fun.

Day 30  :woohoo:

Finally, lol.  I've come to realize that I'm not so much a fan of the Micra anymore.  Don't get me wrong, the scissors are great for heavier duty compared to the 58mm SAK scissors, but having to open the thing to get to the blade or other tool inside is annoying.  Number one tool I use, would be the blade, so doesn't really fit.  Anyways it's been a fun month with you guys!

If your not doing anything in June, join us over in the 30 day Alox challenge!

Day 30

And just when I thought I was done…

I took a picture during an evening walk thinking it would be the end of the day’s work before relaxing until bedtime… but  as I pulled my boots off a thorn that was along for the ride stuck into my finger, and I pulled it out with the tweezers on the Micra.

My final thoughts for the challenge:

I had initially purchased the Micra as a complement to the Victorinox Soldier several years ago before the Pioneer X appeared.

So I stopped carrying it.

Then I did the Classic SD Challenge and have had that on my keys ever since.  So the Micra hasn’t been given much attention until recently.

I’ll be keeping the Micra in my pocket for a good long while. I found it to be more useful (at least more confidently useful) than the Classic SD … though as a Victorinox fan, I wish it were the other way around.

The main advantage of the Classic SD is that the blade is easier to access but other than that the Micra seems to be a better stand-alone tool.

I really think that I would be well equipped with just a Micra and a separate folding knife, and that is what I’m going to do for the time being. I actually prefer how lightweight this setup is.

My Pioneer X will continue to take a back seat for a while longer, and will probably make a comeback in about a month when I have some trips planned and will want to have a single too that can do it all.

But until then…
