Your Most Used And Abused Multi-Tool...
on: March 01, 2024, 01:51:07 PM
I carried this SOG Powerlock for nearly 20 years. It got to a point where I was uncomfortable NOT having it. It's gotten me out of so many jams I can't count them. I recently retired it for the new Leatherman Arc, because U.S.A. But I'll be keeping it around....

Show your most used and abused.

I carried the PST for a decade, dented the wire cutters, snapped the small flathead and the tip of the blade. But those dastardly Leatherman people just replaced everything when I sent it to them.

No other MT was in use that long or as my only MT, so there's very little to see  :(

I don't have a picture unfortunately, as I sent it in ages ago, but I shattered the pliers of a new wave (the original I kept new and boxed).

I was using it all day, cutting high tension wire, pulling staples on fence posts and pretty much everything.

I was joining two stands of high tension round wire, and really clamping down, and....the pliers just kind of shattered into about 11 pieces including the handle.

The then girlfriend blamed me for being ham handed, as I have a bear grip (I normally bend handles in on themselves). I have send back 7 full size leatherman tools and about 6 smaller plier / scissor leatherman tools.

The Swiss tool, I am yet to do any real damage too.....so highly recommend those

This, right here, is why Swisstools are my choice for vehicle MTs, etc.

It isn't my oldest MT, that honor goes to my Charge but my wife got me a Skeletool for my 30th and I carried it daily for nearly a decade... it has seen a lot of abuse and held up really well. I just recently put a new edge on the blade and cleaned and oiled it and it is getting a lot more carry time again.

Here's a recent pic... looks surprisingly unused considering all it has done.

My EDC for the last 6 or 8 years, except during challenges, I liquified this bit of handle on my Victorinox Spirit when I accidently contacted both posts of a 12 volt battery and had to kick it away from the battery before it welded itself in place. At least I 'll always know which one is mine.

That's what happened to my SOG in the first post.

Gets the old adrenaline going, doesn't it...

My original PST that I carried for 20 years for work. Used but not abused and I ended up giving it a bit of a rehab.

Very cool, Steve.

Makes you feel bad for retiring one.

That's why I keep it handy and use it from time to time.

edit: posted in the wrong thread. But yeah, that's quite an amount of time for carrying one tool - nice.
