New forum member, first dumb question
on: March 14, 2024, 10:29:36 PM
Hi Everyone - Just joined the forum and I think I'm falling down the SAK rabbit hole. I have never seen a SAK with anything but a highly polished blade. Do they, or have they ever, made a knife with a satin finish? I am mostly just curious but I do have a preference for the satin finish.

Thanks
Hector

Welcome aboard!

I can’t recall any coming from the factory with a satin finish on the blades.  They do make some with black blades though.

If you were dead set on a satin finish, you could always DIY.

There is the Onyx line of SAKs.

Not satin but black.

Highly polished is easier to keep clean, IMO.

Pre-80's soldiers (don't know until when exactly) came with a "brushed" aspect blade (probably just grinding marks).

Solid choice!

As a standalone hiking or camping SAK, I still believe the Huntsman is one of the best options out there.  It packs a lot of features, while remaining a pocketable four layers.

Also, as the proud owner of a Huntsman, you owe it to yourself to read this thread…

I guess the Evokes are a bit more satiny - But are not your typical SAK

Also a few other variations of black out there

Not as good as an MTo Huntsman, but not bad.

Pre-80's soldiers (don't know until when exactly) came with a "brushed" aspect blade (probably just grinding marks).

This.  most (all?) early 93mm alox had unpolished blades and tools.  A bit later the blade became polished and the tools remained unpolished for awhile.  I think by mid-late 80's all were polished.
If the trees blew down the wind and no one was around, would the alphabet song really go backwards?
