Mechanical pencils (2025)
on: October 25, 2025, 07:22:06 PM
I saw there was a pretty old thread on this, but seems like we are not supposed to resurrect those?

I thought it'd be cool to post mechanical pencils we like.  I just got this Zebra TS-3:

which is the smallest and cutest one I've seen. Also fairly cheap, it cost me about £5. I'll probably keep it clipped to a small notebook.

Old threads get pulled out of the grave with some regularity around here, but new ones are okay, too. The TS-3 isn't shown on Zebra's U.S. site, but I've had M-301s in the past. Like every Zebra I've had, it was a quality writing instrument at an economical price. :tu:

It's not on their UK site either, and it had a Japanese label on it, so I guess Japanese domestic market.  But can buy on Amazon UK among other places.

Makes sense. It looks like it's rather compact and pocket-friendly, too.

Eh, we love us some thread necro.  In some ways, IMO it is easier when searching if there are fewer threads on a given subject vs. more threads.

I think it is a feature of the forum software that if you try to reply to a thread that hasn’t been posted to in more than 90(?) days, you get a message saying this and asking if you really want to reply or start a new thread.

Nice trio!  Probably good to keep backups on hand as I don't think they store much lead...

From the thinnest pencil I own to the fattest:

I've had this for so long, at least 20 years, that I don't remember where I got it or anything much about it. It says Porsche Design on the clip but I don't know who made it. Mechanism inside is a Faber-Castell 0.7mm. You twist to extend the lead. Works pretty well, and due to the size and shape of it, it's comfortable in the hand. I don't think it will have been very expensive to buy, otherwise I would not have bought it - it was certainly the first mechanical pencil I got that was not made of plastic.
