I get the feeling I’m a bit minimal, compared to some of the folks around here…  :-[

My main EDC consists of:
A Kavaj combined phone case/wallet – with iPhone SE (taking the photo).
One of my watches (changes often! :D ).
Keys on my Keysmart.
And, hopefully, a few things I may not need soon – a mask and hand sanitizer…

There are a few other things that make an appearance. Though this is my current set-up.  :hatsoff:

I just watched this video on edc. Very well presented and organized, he goes through his mentality when it comes to edc. He boiled it down to a few key items that are dependable and easy to carry in his pockets everyday. I thought it was worth a watch.

Here is most of what I carry daily.  I've been carrying a Knipex 5 inch Cobra pliers for 5 years.  Occasionally, I carry a pliers multitool instead of the Leatherman T4.

Not shown are a COVID mask, wallet, G-Shock watch, comb, etc.

I am just wondering, how often do you use those EDC flashlights, and for what purposes?

I mean, I can't justify to myself using valuable pocket space for a flashlight when I have street lights and a smartphone.

I might be wrong, though...

Quite a lot, in terms of when you might need one:

-Outside at night

-Under a desk or in a poorly lit room, humans build a bunch of caves everywhere essentially, no matter the time of day it's dark somewhere

-Looking inside of something

Why use a dedicated flashlight instead of your phone?

-So you don't drain your phone's battery

-Phones are terrible flashlights, it's a handy feature, but not what the flash is for. Dedicated lights have better light quality and frequently the ability to change brightness. Meanwhile the phone has no reflector so the light has no real distance to it

-Holding your phone like a flashlight increases the chance of you dropping or bashing it on something, they're very expensive devices we rely on so this isn't ideal

-Phones are awkward shapes to hold for the flashlight a lot fo the time

-Depending where you are you're highlighting you're walking with an expensive thing in your hand, making yourself a target for theft

Cheap flashlights are small, bright and remarkably handy, I recommend you grab a cheaper one and see if you benefit from upgrading  :tu:

:iagree: I use my flashlights about as much inside as I do outside.  There are dark spots all over where a little extra light comes in handy.

:iagree: I carry everyday and have a spare battery in my EDC bag, because I'm concerned about getting caught in an unfamiliar building during a fire or power failure, but I also use my EDC light all the time in the house when looking for something and when I'm outside at night.

I also use it every night when I turn off my bedroom light because the switch is by the door and I then have to cross the room in the dark. So, if I'm honest, my actual primary use for a $100 tactical, rechargeable, wonder light with six modes, that uses $20 batteries, is so I don't stub my toe. Worth it!

Funny you should ask about EDC lights.  I carry a small one AAA and a button light.  The button light is great for all lighting tasks small.  Inside a cabinet, under my car seat, and similar things.  My little AAA light is good when I want more light.  I have used it at dimly lit restaurant, corridor that was also not lit well, and when entering a bathroom with a light that was out.

I keep a AA light on my tool belt for any and every scenario.  Last week I was entering a room that has auto light but they didn't turn on.  Its a large space which I had to walk across to open doors on the other side.  My button light was of no use and my little AAA was good for what I need, however my AA was perfect to illuminate with its floody beam.

Every time I think a light is not needed or my phone can handle my lighting needs I remember having a dedicated light has always proven best for me.

+1 for carrying a flashlight
Winter here in Sydney so completely dark by 5, my street has no lighting for much of it so would be walking into things without it.
Mostly carry a Nitecore Tube or Tiki on the keychain with a Lumintop AAA in pocket or bag…currently looking at getting a RovyVon
Although I’ve got some big and bright ones, find the smaller ones are what actually gets carried

I Will think about it, maybe obtain some keychain multipurpose thingy like Nitecore Tiki.

In the meanwhile, my EDC for the last few weeks, but I think Gerber will see much less pocket time when I get a small pocket organizer/wallet.

I transfer my wallet and phone (nothing special for either) between a small bag I wear on my shoulder and a backpack, depending on what I'm doing. I have a handful of shopping bags that roll up, so in addition to one of those, this is what is always on me. On the left is the small bag and on the right the backpack. The ratcheting combination wrench is 13 mm. The red SAK is a Sportsman and the blue one is a Tourist.

I carry a AAA size Maratac flashlight that clips to my pocket. It is so small that you hardly notice it is there!
I knew my wife was a keeper when she transitioned from calling it a knife thingy to a multi-tool.

Better yet! I started with a Rambler and modded it to a Midnite Manager (Manager + Led Light). Never left my pocket since!
