What is left of dinner that will end up being a snack later.

Well, I have to admit this is not a SAK, but a FrAK, officially known as the Couteau C.A.C. (Combat. Assistance. Campagne). It is the new French Army pocket knife. It includes a corkscrew!

The snacks (hummus and dates) are from a brand new French 24-h combat ration.

:like: The French have some interesting military rations. One of their main courses is or was ostrich.

Well, I ate a lot of French rations (yes, a vert weird hobby), however I've never seen a ration containing ostrich. But maybe I've missed it.

The snacks pictured came from a new French ration. Main dishes are Barbeque Pork with Pasta and Beans with Vegetables. It has 4000kcal and weighs 1,9 kilo!

As there is no "SAKs & Snakes" thread, I put this pic to the thread with the most similar name  :)

Bijou and barbecue pork rinds.  Full of cholesterol and salt and other nutrients.  I tried to place the bag so the brand wouldn't show.  A friend from China asked me what pork rinds were.  He had been buying the things and liked them but was curious about what they were.  Best wishes.  G

I think I recognize that brand. Pork rinds are a great snack...Beijing (my dog) likes them, too!

Current French Emergency Food Ration (Ration d'Urgence) accompagnied by latest official C.A.C. pocket knife.

My outdoor friend and tried this 1176 kcal ration and the knife. The knife is just awesome! Although I used it only to cut the plastic wrappers and cut the coffee bar... If you can buy this genuine French Army knife, it is worth the money. (Unfortunately this official issue knife is almost impossible to get.)

The ration contains 2 coffee bars, 2 fruit bars, 1 power gel (dates), 1 elektrolyte beverage (mango tea) and 1 survival biscuit.
The bars and power gel tasted very good.
The biscuit tasted... well not all, Okay there was some faint taste of biscuit and sugar crystals, but you can skip this as a tasteful meal. The biscuit can be eaten dry, but why should you torture yourself? It is dry as a desert. Best is to mix it with a little bit of water, or take a bite and within 1/10 of a second a nip from your water bottle.
The electolyte drink had the color of a mango drink. It tasted like..? We had no clue. We rather suffered from thirst then drinking it!

Next week we'll try another nations ration and pocket knife.

I finally got a new photo for this thread. Here's a MKII MiniChamp with Meijer "Bar Blend" trail mix. The trail mix contains: pretzels, honey mustard and cheddar flavored pretzel twists, nacho flavored begal chips, honey roasted sesame chips, Worcestershire rye chips, and seasoned rice crackers.

I'm dusting off this old thread (cough, cough). My apologies for neglecting it.

A break during a hike in the woods, a small fire, sausages, bread — I love it!
