Hello from NC
on: February 12, 2009, 03:04:05 AM
I've somehow amassed over 240 posts on EDCF, so I suppose I'm a bit less of a newbie over there, and made my first two posts here today. :)

I must admit that I'm a Victorinox fan, with two Vagabonds, a Minichamp, a Classic SD, a silver Alox Classic SD, a Spartan (I think...), and a silver Alox Cadet... I believe that's all of them, for now at least.  In addition to Victorinox, I'm also a fanboy of Leatherman, seeing as I own a Micra, Squirt P4 (they should add removable tweezers), Kick, and Juice KF4, and having a couple "Leatherman-like" multitools, too; granted, the non-Leatherman Leathermans are distant reserves, but I own them nonetheless.

Hmm, what else to say?  :think:  Beats me.  Oh!  Hiya. ^^;

Welcome Sazabi. The sak in question is not to hard to recognise. If it has two layers 1st with a lg and sm blade, and 2nd with a cap lifter and a bottle opener + awl and a corscrew then it's a Spartan. Tinker has a philips screwdriver inmplace of the corkscrew. Here's a pic for ya Tinker on the left with red scales, and a Spartan on the right with black.

Welcome again :D

I have a Vagabond and I find that I like it's setup even better than the MiniChamp how bout you?

Also does your Vagabond have a pen in it? :tu:

I'd mixed up the Spartan and Tinker; it's the Tinker that I actually have.

As for my Vagabonds, they lack pens, but I plan to one day modify then with Signature scales. :)

Sadly enough, the reason why I got the Minichamp was because I didn't want to end up carrying around a discontinued SAK, but I like the size of my Vagabond - and the layout - a lot more, so I'll probably just get Signature scales for both of my Vagabonds and modify them.

On that note, /where/ can I purchase Signature replacement scales?  I can't find them on RotoKid's site, Amazon, eBay, or anywhere else.  It's as if regular 58mm scales are offered, but replacement Signature scales are as common as a Dodo bird. -___-

I did, and I'm just awaiting a reply; on that note, though, I did order a pair of either 83mm or 91mm bottle openers/wire strippers/large screw drivers; I'm going to slip one onto my keychain for a tiny bottle opener/conversational piece.  Granted, I don't drink, but meh. *shrugs*

I'll order Signature scales - and retractable pens - from him when I have a bit more money, though; I'd probably upgrade my Classic SD to a Signature, too. ^^;

... Maybe purchase a Quattro Driver, too.

Granted, a Compact and Pioneer are on my Christmas list, too, lol.  But those two can wait for a while. :)

[Edit:  I may end up selling my Minichamp, in all truth, and get a Manager instead; smaller size, though I dislike the tool layout on it. ~_~]

Personally, I prefer the "traditional" silver Alox scales, as opposed to the blue and red ones.  They may be limited edition, but I'd rather purchase SAKs that I know I'll use, as opposed to collectible ones - eh, what am I talking about?  I may get them, keep them in the boxes, and sell them years from now for lots of money when they're uberrare. ^^;

RotoKid /may/ get some in, but the timing is unknown.  He's having to order from a European supplier, since Signature replacement scales are /not/ sold as aftermarket replacements (nor are styli) in all of North America, and all but a very limited number of places in Europe.

Victorinox feels it would cut into their profits if they sold them. >.>;  I don't blame them, but at the same time, I /do/ want to upgrade my Classic SD to a Signature, and my two Vagabonds to Vagabond Scribes. ~_~

Thanks Sazabi :tu: That would be great to pick a few of those up and make the 58mm range even more functional :cheers:
