They are selling them at many places for very cheap and that’s usually the indicator that Victorinox is liquidating stock and will announce the retirement after it’s sold off the majority of stock. It’s not confirmed that it has been retired but this is what they do and there are many examples of it. Victorinox the last 5-ish years has been thinning out their portfolio of pocket knives. The choice’s keep shrinking every year and next to no new editions added. The Companion was a nice release last year but who knows when it will be regular production. The new bladeless stuff should be here next year. I doubt they will be producing 93mm bladeless models.
Interesting - I did check a couple of sites and some still have it listed at the $59 US price point and some have it for $43-ish US.
not really into the saw either but it's cheaper than a Rancher would be and they haven't made those in years. The price is the best we will ever see for a 2 to 3 layer 93mm Alox knife. It may be worth buying a few of them for being modded.
I am also tempted by the relatively low price of the Harvester. And I don’t usually like the keyring, so…But I have also kept a Farmer X standing by, for a long time already…Is the hawkbill blade suitable for whittling / carving fine detail? I would miss a smaller blade on the Farmer X.
I’d say “yes” if I was actually good at whittling. I’ve used it but just not very successfully on detail I think because I’m still so new to it. The small blade I think works better. I’ve also never sharpened a hawkbill blade so that adds to the complexity. There’s a guy on YouTube who’s modded an Alox to hold a proper whittling blade: https://youtu.be/nDDCIhJWuV4?si=HqVVtz8mju7jfnn7
