Exceed Designs Avair
on: June 30, 2024, 04:31:27 PM
The AVAIR, a culmination of over two years of design and research, truly stands out as a high-end EDC (everyday carry) folder. Designed with meticulous attention to detail, this knife is a testament to quality and precision.

The AVAIR embodies a minimalist yet sophisticated design, featuring ceramic bearings and fully skeletonized 6AL-4V Titanium scales. The custom compound ground Böhler M390 blade underscores its high-end credentials. Every aspect of this knife has been carefully crafted, from its ergonomic pyramid-wedge profile to its optimized weight-reduced skeletonized scales. The CNC contoured 6AL-4V Titanium scales and custom turned screws ensure near-zero tolerances, making this knife not only a tool but a work of art.

Specifications:
- Weight: 3.0oz
- Handle Height: 0.88″
- Handle Width: 0.85-1.0″
- Handle Length: 3.25″
- Overall Length (Open): 7.35″
- Manufacturing:Hybrid approach with parts from China, USA, and Austria

Having used the AVAIR folding knife extensively, I can confidently say it's one of the finest EDC knives I've encountered. Here are some key highlights from my experience:

The jet black PVD (Physical Vapor Deposition) coating on my AVAIR is not only visually striking but also incredibly durable. Initially, I was skeptical about all-black knives, associating them with low-quality, "mall ninja" aesthetics. However, the AVAIR has changed my perspective. The PVD coating is sleek and sophisticated, making the knife look and feel premium.

The handle design is modern and exudes a certain sexiness reminiscent of something from The James Brand. Its geometric pivot complements the overall styling, showcasing the designer's attention to detail. The handle is velvety smooth and feels luxurious in hand. The lock has the perfect amount of tension and features a combo stabilizer insert, which has become a standard in high-end knives.

The lanyard loop's positioning, while unusual, works well with the knife's design. Personally, I think it would get in the way. I'm used to a lanyard hole near the back of the handle. The pocket clip is simple yet effective, and I appreciate its minimalist design. Although a deep-carry clip is available, I don't feel it's necessary.

The modified tanto blade, reminiscent of the Hinderer spanto style, offers a unique blend of aesthetics and functionality. The M390 steel performs exceptionally well, retaining its sharpness even after a month of heavy use. The high flat profile enhances its slicing capabilities, making it a great performer for cutting through dense materials like cardboard.

Overall, I love the AVAIR folding knife. It's quickly become a favorite in my collection, impressing me with its performance and design. Exceed Design has truly outdone themselves with this knife, and it's a mystery why they aren't more well-known in the knife community. The AVAIR is every bit as impressive as offerings from other top-tier brands.

The AVAIR folding knife is a remarkable tool that combines form and function in an elegant package. Whether you're an EDC enthusiast or a knife collector, the AVAIR is a worthy addition to your arsenal. Its meticulous design, high-quality materials, and outstanding performance make it a standout choice in the crowded world of high-end folding knives.
