t-shank holder
on: August 28, 2017, 03:04:44 PM
A while ago I found nice diamond coated jih saw blades on ebay. They make an excellent small metal saw able to cut even hard metals, albeit slowly. The only problem is, I don't EDC any tool that would be able to take those, like LM surge. So I would like to find or make an appropriate handle for these blades. It would have to be not much bigger than the blade itself, and if it can store the blade I would not complain.

Not long ago, there was a thread by some Swiss guy (I forget the name, talk about Swiss cheese like brains) showing off his rather expensive tool that fits the bill. But it is to expensive for me. So if anyone has any idea how to make or buy such a tool please let me know.

That Swiss Guy here... buy a lottery ticket? :D >:D

There are cheaper t-shank holders (but none as elegant as mine).
Donau Handsäge
Bosch and Stanley both have a holder, but both are ridiculously large. I'm sure you can find them on Google...

Hi, Swiss guy..   :D

I like the one you posted link to. Although it is still big for what I have in mind, it is far better than anything I was able to find.

If I spend some more time thinking on the problem, I might come up with a DIY solution. But the thing is that takes more time and energy than I am currently (or in the foreseeable future) able to muster.

This is my solution. Holds both T and U shanks. It's just a keyless chuck to hex shank converter.. Just a few dollars. Can be used just with the chuck alone. But I added a old comfy screwdriver handle to mine.

Would the saw blade fit (or be modifed to fit) the Gerber MP600  saw holder ?   (these usually come with a remgrit blade).  S'hand MP600s can usually be found reasonably cheap if you are prepared to look around and be patient.

Found the Stanley again... I was mistaken, this is for reciprocating- / saber blades

There is also one from Tofty, but this one requires a Charge or Wave
I have seen others for 3D printing but all of them are really ugly and bulky.

Not cheap but one of my favorite multitools. If you don't have one already it is a worthwhile purchase in my opinion.

Can we get more information? Is it stable or wiggly?

Pictures from the "muzzle" end? I thought about this, but didn't think the dogs would hold the blade very well.

That's really a cool idea.

Depending on just how you're going to carry that (obviously not in a pocket),
I bet you could even leave the blade sticking out a little bit.

There are quite a lot of good ideas in this thread. But to me they all seem to bulky for what I want. I might try to make a folding saw out of a hacksaw blade...

How pricy? More than the cost of either of the two solutions below that happen to include highly versatile multitools :D?
