Tool <looks like> gutting, but straighter/longer. And, yes, Smurfpills is involved.

Dear all, very much a newbie here - to the forum anyhow. Have long collected knives and tools. This one throws me - not sure what blade it might be.

Backstory: The International Men's Health Study was a prospective, observational cohort study of men with ED who took sildenafil ~ Smurfpills ~ when it was first launched, so running from 2004 - 06.

This knife is one of a few promotional Swiss Army knives distributed to participating researchers as part of the study, likely meant to raise awareness around the study and its objectives in men’s health.

As is often with such SAKs, the tool/blade configuration can be bespoke. I’m interested in the serrated knife - I’ve seen a few but always shorter (this is almost the same length as the lock-blade - 7.5 to the main blade's 8) and slightly curved.

Can anyone shed light? I’m assuming it’s a hunters, but happy to be corrected! Tang marks it as 1993 – 2009, and that obvs fits w the study.

**edit - crying with laughter as this site auto-edits the brand name for the er, smurf-pills. NOWT TO DO W ME!

Some Victorinox catalogs call it a belt cutter.  Best wishes.  G

Welcome to the forum, and I am glad you enjoy the smurf filter.  Just wait until you try and talk about wrissmurfches that are resistant to salsmurfer!

Getting on to your question, that looks like a standard rescue bkade found on models like the Parachutist and Fireman models.  They are not one of the more common implements available, but a similar blade can also be found on the RS version of the SwissTool, which is, IMHO the best version of the SwissTool, and I will fight anyone who says otherwise.   :D

Judging by your photo (and I am guessing because I can't see all of it) I would guess it is a Fireman due to the corkscrew.  The Parachutist has a Phillips driver on the back instead.

Regardless, you have an excellent knife!

Glad to have you here!  If that knife is indicative of the kinds of things you like, I think you will fit in quite well here!

Now that I see the second photo I can confirm that yes, that is a Fireman.

I forgot to mention that those are some very good photos.  If it was my knife, I think I might try something like Flitz on the blade to try and remove the smurf, I mean corroded spot.  These things are pretty hard to rust, but nothing is completely immune, I suppose.  Best wishes.  G

Welcome!

The large gutting/belt cutter/rescue blade has an interesting history.  You can read more about it here:

However I'm in the UK so not much use to you I'm afraid.

That's not too big a deal- I am in Canada and trade with people in the UK all the time.

Sure it costs a bit more in postage, but if it's worth it, it's worth it.

I am a man with fairly small hands too, but I still like the 111mm series knives.  Wait till you see the 120mm and 130mm series!
