Delemont S557

First of all, I want to thank one of the members here for their amazing level of generosity. SteveP found out I was interested in a S557 when I mentioned to “let me know if you ever wanted to trade it” in a thread, and sent his to me completely free of charge. Refused offers to negotiate a trade/purchase and just straight up sent it to me. Thanks so much again SteveP! I am touched by your generosity to someone whom you have never met outside of this forum.

The S557 is a neat tool in that it has a lot of the common Wenger style tools (scissors, pliers, wrench, pressure locking phillips, pressure locking flathead, locking blade) all wrapped up in a nice, relatively easy to carry package. It is a great representation of what the 85mm Delemont line has to offer. SteveP made a couple of cool mods to this one in particular. He burned a hole in the scales for the pin, and he sharpened the inside of the can opener.

I plan on putting this through its paces at some point and will report back here with how it goes! Maybe I will even do a 30 day challenge with it soon.

Let’s see your 557s as well and hear your thoughts about them!

A great tool loadout, especially with the locking screwdrivers. Congratulations, and  :hatsoff: to SteveP!

Wowsers!  Santy Claus came early this year.  I've never seen this sort of sharing on any other site.  I think that is why the Surprise Box works so well.  Best wishes.  G

I happened to pick up one of these today as well, mostly on a whim: they're not making any more Delémonts, so may as well fill out the collection. I'm not sure how much I'm going to wind up carrying it -- I'm fairly insensitive to tool size/weight compared to a lot of people, so if I'm not carrying a monster SAK like the CT 41, Evo S54 or the XLT for the sheer breadth of toolkit, I'm usually carrying a Leatherman -- but I like that it has most of what I actually use in practice from the S54 in a much more pocketable package. Feels like it might be an ideal knife to take for situations where I'm not wearing pants with huge pockets and can't wear a belt sheath. Almost like a "Super Deluxe Tinker" with a locking blade and ergonomic grip.

I’ve heard that they are no longer making delemont models, but have not seen the supply dry up. Have they given a timeframe?

I have a vague memory of reading that production was discontinued in December 2023, but as usual with these things, there's no official press release you can point to as proof: it's mostly rumors that get filtered from the dealer network through to the public.

I actually asked the same question about the visible continued availability of the models the other day and IMR4198 responded saying that they were indeed discontinued and may be able to chip in with more information.

Best thing I can tell you to do is look at the 2024 Victorinox catalog.  There is a single 65mm 'Esquire type' called the Wenger and some Ranger 130mm models.  Best wishes.  G

For whatever it's worth, I looked for Delémonts at Knife Center around May/June. They didn't have many available, and they are usually pretty good about removing discontinued products from their site when stock is sold out. So it seems a relatively safe bet that the line is discontinued.
