Victorinox Grouse Camper II (Camper PLUS) ID 59462
on: October 07, 2024, 04:22:34 PM
Hello, everyone!

A few months ago, I purchased a new in blister Victorinox Grouse Camper II ID 59462. It’s a Camper Plus, equipped with Plus Scales, Pressurized Pen (feature #14, non-visible on the packaging pictures but present), a Mini-Screwdriver, and a Straight Pin). However, I have not been able to find any online sites, blogs, literature, or catalogs mentioning it. According to the packaging, it was intended for the Canadian market (the packaging has a year imprinted on the back: 2013).

Could you please help me find more information about it, beyond what is provided on the blister?

Thanks a lot!

An interesting variant for the SAKwiki.  Obvious marketing for the Canadian outdoorsy types.  Those are some excellent photos.  The header reads Grouse Farmer II Plus which is just a slip-up of course.  Best wishes.  Gary (IMR)

It seems like you already have quite a bit of information about it.  You know what it is called, what tools it has, what scales it has, what year it was made, and what market it was intended for.

What else would you like to know?

What's odd to me is that the Camper II that I have has just nylon scales.  This seems to have collider or somewhat translucent.

They should do Plus scales more often.  Nice to have an emergency pen handy

Scales appear to be normal ABS transparent 'ruby' scales.  Seems like I have several Campers with cellidor somewhere.  Nylon is generally on the Ecoline SAKs, right?  Label on the rear is marked RBY for ruby.  Interesting to see the rear illustration looks like ordinary red cellidor.  Perhaps they came in several colors/materials?
I can understand leaving this one in the package, but I am not sure I have that much self-restraint.  Best wishes.  G

I have an old Camper with cellidor scales and the metal Camper inlay, and I have a Camper that I bought new with simple nylon scales, the box of which I still have, which is marked Camper II

Buenos Dias MexSAK

Great post and thanks for this .....

You know the world of SAKs is full of surprises - Unknown models or variations are always turning up   :o
As mentioned above this looks like a variation for the Canadian market

Are you OK for us to put this info into SAKWiki?  - And also to use your photos please ?   ???    :tu:

Gracias

PS. I see you have helped SAKWiki out before - So thanks again for that    :salute:

This is really cool! It kind of makes me want to turn my Camper, which I carry pretty often, into a Camper Plus...

Hello, everyone! I apologize for the delay in getting back to you. I hadn't logged in for several days until a friend told me there were some posts here. Thank you all for your feedback!

YES, HUNTSMAN, please feel free to use my pictures for SAKWiki. If you'd like, I can provide better ones for you as well.

Have a great week!

Thank you. Here are some additional details that would be helpful to know: Was it a regular production model, an aborted project, or a failure? How does its price compare to a regular Camper? Not all information is included on the packaging, even if there is more detail available than what is found in a boxed example. Cheers.

Good questions Mex - But I'm not sure we'll ever know the answers unless someone else here has/bought this model, or we have access to someone who used to work for Victorinox NA, SABI, Forschner or one of these companies.

Both of which could be possible !!   :salute:

It does look like a Canada special - And we know special runs did get created from time to time eg The Smoky Mountain Wildlife series, The Canada Wildlife series, The so called Canada I series, French military set etc etc

My questions are:
1. What happened to the Grouse Camper I model? !!
2. From the model code / name - I assume RBY = Ruby = Transparent red scales; But what does HOK (or is it HDK) stand for?  ???

I'll shut both eyes and take a swing at the HDK question.  I think it is the packaging.  Instead of coming in a box, it is a hanging display card (Karte).  Best wishes.  G
 ;)

It's "HOK", Huntsman. "H" might stand for HART  and "K" for KARTE (both words in German?), as suggested by IMR4198).
So what would the "O" stand for? 🤔

I guess a mini screwdriver and a straight pin makes a Camper a Grouse Camper II. My Explorer with a mini screwdriver and straight pin must now be a Pheasant Explorer II or some other bird name.
