I'd be a lot more receptive to the package opener if it was paired with a combo tool. Lately I've opened many more cans than bottles. There are other things about the Companion that grind my gears a little, but they seem best suited for airing out in another thread.

I think a bladeless Pioneer X would be sweet.

I am also still really wanting to see the chisel/combo tool incorporated into a SAK and think it would be perfect on a bladeless model.

I would like saw, file and scissors, maybe an inline phillips driver too. I see it as a companion tool to supplement other versions without those implemts.

I made a bladeless SAK almost a year ago. This is my fauvorite bladeless setup. And this is no SAK anymore – it is SAM – Swiss Army Multitool.

Love your SAM - SAMek !!   :)

So its a SwissChamp minus the blade layer and with 8 layers and  a Cybertool replacing the main blade - Correct?
And with  tool layer swaps etc etc

But what is that tool opposite the mag glass?  ??? Another awl?

Any challenges makin it?      Eg  with  the blade layer spring, backtools  etc etc
     :climber:

:like: Lots of great ideas here.

It bugs me that the authorities will get to debate whether or not the awl counts as a weapon.  I use this tool quite a bit and would want on on a bladeless SAK.  And it they decide that an awl is a weapon, then so is a pencil.

I concur, lots of great ideas.  Unfortunately any of them are subject to the whim of a government that needs to "prove" they are doing something about safety.  I've seen many, many comments on social media and under mainstream news articles from people that think any sort of knife should be banned from being carried.  You have to keep in mind to these people, including some politicians (many?) will see most of the preferred tools as a "sharp" that could be used as a weapon.

scissors = weapon - cannot take through airport security ( but you can buy them after security  )
Awl = weapon
saw = weapon
screwdriver = weapon - I think it low priority too, but I've forgotten a 3cm Phillips in my carryon and had it confiscated so not a stretch to get to weapon
bottle/can opener = weapon

I'm fortunate that I'm in a country with thus far limited restrictions, though the threat hovers constantly. We (Canada) can't have automatic or assisted knives now and they will confiscate either if they are shipped in (think Benchmade assisted open, or Kershaw, etc.).  Switchblades have been illegal since I was a kid.  I've owned knives since I was a child, starting with a SAK.  I own a Benchmade assisted open knife, that I'm allowed to own because I received it before the restriction.  But I have no illusions that were I stopped while carrying it that it would be confiscated and not returned.  Better than 50 years of carrying and I have yet to stab or cut anyone (other than myself, every damn Spyderco I've owned I've cut myself on first opening - it's a curse).

I only wish politicians/nannies would learn that it's not actually the tool, it's the user and their intent.  If wishes were horses, beggars would ride.

Last month one of my kids graduated college and the ceremony was held at the college sports arena. After standing in line, once you get into the building everyone had to walk through a metal detector that was displaying a "No Pocketknives Allowed" so I had to go back to the car to drop off my knife (Explorer BTW). In this situation, any folding tool if recognized is going to be denied entry.

Which brings me to one of my preferred knives, which is the Midnight Manager that has a selection of actually very handy tools and being one of the 58mm knives works as a key fob as well. I'd like to see the knife blade replaced with a file with a serrated edge made to cut on the pull stroke. Possibly have the tip ground to the profile of a #2 phillips but make it blunted or just have a flat blade screwdriver tip. Kept on the key ring with yourt keys you can say it is a keychain and there is no knife involved. Anyway, if you've never seen or used one those Midnight Managers are a very handy "piece of kit" as my dear friends the Limeys say.

Also, I would absolutely LOVE to see a pocketknife with a blade holder designed to retain a utility knife blade that can simply be removed and tossed when you discover you need to go somewhere knives aren't allowed. I want it to be designed as an actual pocket knife though and not simply a folding utility/carpet knife design like what they are right now.

I just read an article about this after a quick search of the web. One of my 14 year old kids wanted a new sak "so I can open bottles" I know he likes knifes and think Saks are just as fascinating as I think. He got a classic SD but then we talked a bit about it and he can't bring a sak to school and I'm sad to say that's a bit problematic for a 14 year old to get cought with a pocket knife even outside school now that we don't live in a rural area anymore. When I was that age I had a sportsman with me every day and that was OK.

I built a bladeless sak a couple of years ago with a full opening layer (corkscrew as a backtool to the other openers) scissors and plus scales

If I would change something with it I would add pliers so I think that's what I would like to see front victorinox

He wanted a Huntsman but thought it was a bit expensive (it's more fun to buy video games) personally I think it is a great choice just as it is but I'm thinking about getting one and remove the blades so he can use it everyday and have a blade separate for when the use is justified

I wonder if after long last they had a meeting and did some brainstorming.

Then there was this "influencer" video from a month ago https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WRMDpSIvjxs

[…]

I think they may have had a meeting. ;)

Jon Gadget (the “influencer” and formally the owner of the Gadget Shop chain of UK stores) visited Victorinox in Ibach, Switzerland.
He met with Carl Elsener, in the following video:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_jOcOtwhlP8

It’s a very informative video, if you have time to watch. Not just for bladeless SAKs, but why some models cost more, how they manufacture there knives, and possible future products.

Hope that helps, :).

P.S. In case you don’t want to watch the whole video, it mentions Carl Elsener produces “a couple of alox bladeless samples” from his pocket at: 17:11, in the video.

Would it be strange if I said "just scissors" in 91mm?

[…]

I don’t think you’re alone. ;)

I really like this Brunner Custom SAK SAS (Swiss Army Scissors – see attached) I saw on their Facebook page, a few years ago.

Other options I think would be good is if Victorinox reinstated the Voyageur with a package opener, instead of the blade.
Or my personal favorite,  an Alox Rambler with something else instead of the blade. Even the cuticle pusher would be fine by me.

Anyway, I can’t wait to find out what new goodies are in store for us.

Keeping my fingers crossed.
