TI and TTI,which one do you prefer?
on: February 14, 2009, 02:37:18 PM
TTI's jaw is stronger than TI and S30V is a better steel, but I hate the crimper, which is useless and makes the plier head uncomfortable to use.So I like TI better.

Where did you get the idea that the TTI pliers are stronger than those on a Ti ?
The ones on the Ti are actually stronger because there is no crimping cutout.

The TTi is superior to an other Charge models... It has: Ti handles, S30V main blade, serrated blade a/ gutting hook, crimpers, and scissors..The Ti/AL versions are nice, but I'd rather have a cutting hook that none at all.. I'd rather carry an ALX/XTi over the Ti/AL because I like the cutting hook so much..  :D I use it for everything: opening packaging, cutting parcord; fishing line, string, and such much more!

TTi, because the common man can't afford them :D

Seriously though, either does just fine for me.

I used to come here a lot.

I don´t know much about variants of the Charge so when I came across with what I tought was a TTi and saw its price I flipped out :ahhh then the forced landing: no S30V letters, no crimper and no cutting hook...was I basically looking at a Titanium Wave? (I know is a Ti but again the question)
Should I buy it and give the Wave a break? :D >:D

I will try and explain the Charge's for you, tanker..

LM introduced the Ti and XTi first. The Ti has the same tool selection as the New wave with the exception of Ti handle scales, a 154CM blade, and a premium price. The XTi has a gut hook on the serrated blade, a crimper on the pliers, and it drops the scissors and large flat bladed driver for another bit driver. So, it has two bit drivers. Then, LM discontinued the XTi and Ti because if they kept manufacturing them; they would have to bump the prices up. So, LM introduced the TTi, AL, and ALX models.. The TTi model combines the XTi and Ti models with the exception of having a S30V blade instead of 154Cm.. The TTi has scissors, a gut hook, crimper, Ti, scales, and only one large bit driver (which is the best tool combo, IMO).. The AL and ALX models are exactly the same as the Ti and XTi models except for the handle scales. They have aluminum handles instead, which look extremely nice.. I hope this helps!

Instead of buying a back up Wave (no anniversary) I should buy the Charge Ti... the voices talk to me...

Well to be honest, if it's for a backup, you might as well get something slightly different to try. You may well find that the Wave becomes the backup to the Charge!

It really depends on whether you can justify the money, really, but given the choice, I'd take the Ti every time.

Since I have neither, and I don't understand blade steels, my opinion here is less than academic, but I'd go the Ti at this point.

The Crimper & Gut Hook don't have much appeal to me.

I thought you loved the TTi, Dave? Tanker, I'd recommend the Charge AL.. As it's easier to replace and the handles are extremely nice and scratch resistant!

Nomad, you don't know how many times I said that about the guthook.. It's the reason why I carry a Charge's now! LOL

I said the same thing about One-handed, then I bought an OHT.

I said the same thing about Nylon sheaths, then I bought a Surge.

I said the same thing about Zytel, then I bought a Kick

I reserve the right to change my mind at any point in time.

But shoot me if I look like I'm about to praise velcro.

Yeah I do, but he was deciding between a Ti and a Wave I think. So I'd have the Ti.

I have both :)

I prefer the Ti for only one reason...because it's discontinued and more collectible :)

Which makes me feel that I should get another Ti :)

Since I have a TTi thats my choice. I`m sure Ti Is a nice capable tool. Unlike many here I like the CC. I find it handy for some things. I do not use needle nose pliers for brute force so the weaken of the the needle nose by the CC is not a big deal for me. Plus I like the way it looks.

:o the Surge is dead. Long live the Surge!!?? :o :D

To be honest I don´t need another MT, that was my collector self talking. You talk too much about titanium scales in this forum, is your fault I´m tempted ::)

I'm about to get a used Ti in black... crimpers put me off the TTi too and it's overpriced compared to the Ti really.

I like black tools - all the better to sneak up on something with  ;)

Well I have neither but I have a New Wave and love it's configuration and since it's the same as the Ti then I might have to lean towards it  but since the TTi has a little different setup I might go for that

:ahhh Now I am confused and want both of them >:( Great! Way to go guys and I had almost forgot about wanting a Charge for a while :twak: :D

I quite like carrying the ALX/XTi models. I put the philips/3-16 slotted bit in one bit driver and I have a modded awl in the other. To supplement this I have a CC prybar (you lose large screwdriver with ALX/XTi, a LM Micra (no scissors to be had), and one bit card with my favorite selection. This works out much better than carrying a TTi, IMO..  :tu:
