Advice on sake mods with grafting blades
on: October 18, 2024, 11:20:29 AM
Dear all,

First I would like to apologize if this topic has been approached in other posts already (I could not form a clear picture so far), if so, please point me in the right directions.

So, I would like to make two custom knives that will be used for gardening.

First is replacing the original scales on an sak 3.9116 with the blue scales of a floral knife. As I understand it, this should be an easy swap, but I could not find a clear answer on the diameter of the brass rods to keep everything together. Any help with this is much appreciated. Consequently, I am wondering if I could swap the curved blade with the one from sak SKU: 3.9020? This is not a priority however. Also, can this be done with screws instead of rods?

The second one is adding a grafting blade to farmer. Would any fit instead of the regular blade and/ or the saw? Doesn't matter which one, just needs to have the chisel grind. Last but not least, are there any EU suppliers for converting the farmer to screws for easier disassembly, that are still around in 2024?

Thank you for your time!

I am clueless about most of the things you asked about, but fitting screws to the Farmer shouldn't be difficult. You'd probably need a countersink/counterbore, and the holes may have to be adjusted to the size of the screws. Perhaps a modder based in the EU would be able to steer you toward a source for the parts and tools you'll need. Worst-case scenario, they are readily available in the States, and a Stateside member is likely willing to help you out.

Good luck with your mods, and welcome aboard!

I wish I could be of more help, but hopefully you can at least get somewhere with the conversion to screws.

So, I did some more research on this and found new info. It seems like the pivot hole for the 100mm sak are 4mm with, I guess, 3.5mm pins.I still don t know the diameter of the middle one, I guess I should just take one apart and measure. This beeing said, I wonder if I can fit it as is in a 93mm alox, will the 1mm difference have a huge impact? Does anyone have any experience with a similar case where the diameter is larger? The solution used by others is to fill the hole and re-drill the corect diameter, but that seems complicated.

Also, I found some suppliers for parts in the EU. At first they were quite difficult to find for someone with 0 experience in sak mods, at least from where I live, if anyone is interested in this, just let me know. Thank you for your time.
