Any woodworkers who made a custom smooth fence?
on: November 14, 2024, 09:09:22 PM
Any woodworkers in here? I really want to make another custom work table, the one I made before had a center drop in square that you can see in the pic, which the tools (jig, circular, and router) would just drop in and make them a full size tables, unfortunately we had to move and I couldn’t bring it, so I want to make another, this time with a miter saw and maybe a belt sander attached, anyway, what I’m really after is if anyone has made a smooth gliding fence? Maybe something on a pipe or with wheels/bearings? The one pic is me and the old table, but the others are of setups I saw and was curious of, I just want something that’s solid and smooth,,

I only do wood for buildings and simple bad furniture pieces...

Your previous design seemed nice, so I look forward to seeing the improved version.

Edit: If you want straight linear movements take a look at "linear slides"? ("mgn" or "sbr" styles might make sense?)

That table I made was only 4ft x 2ft, the problem was say if I wanted a table saw I had to get the circular saw hooked up, but then if I wanted to use it as a router table I had to drop the saw and then hook up the router, they made a fold up table called a Hirsh, here’s a pic, which basically does the same but even smaller, I found one online brand new still in the box only 35miles away, but we don’t drive, and I kinda want to avoid having to switch tools, since I no longer have a shed and now a two car garage which is only used for storage I’d like a nice big table to work on like a 4ft x 8ft, put all the tools in one and not have to switch everything up, I also like how the miter saw can flip and give everything else the use of the table, here’s a few other pics,,

The flips are nice! I have a hydraulic hole punch setup where that would be a nice solution. For that it might be easier to just flip the entire table though. Or ideally up into a wall and out of the way?

My main table is about 4x10 feet. It is a good size, but it takes space - especially when also considering the space needed to move around.

Yeah that’s me trimming that one piece of ply, a co-worker back in the day helped me make it in his basement since I didn’t have anything but hand tools and a small shed, yet after we made it in his workshop with larger tools I ended up with my own setup. It was pretty easy to make, it was pretty much build a table with a center removable piece that could hold other pieces which held diff tools, like the circular saw, jig saw, router, mini drill press base, and even just a simple solid piece of wood so the bench could be used as a table. After a while I added those strips and made a sled to use with the saw, but then we had to move and I had no place to put it so oh well, yet now since we moved again we have a two car garage, so forget the little bench I could have a full size table, but I’m just so restricted on things I can do because of medical, so it sucks..

I wish, the seller totally did a scam, the sale I did totally disappeared but then like a week later the same identical pic was up for sale yet a diff price, needless to say the Mrs went over his head and not only got our $$ back but notified who he was selling through..
