It never fails, especially when you are starting nightshift.  I could almost bank on it Crunchie   On the other hand, that sheath has character!
Day 10

A long day today sorting out my Mum’s stairlift and boiler (why do things always break down when it’s -4 C?), and now it’s time to start a night shift.

Day 11/30 : Cutting a piece of Galette des Rois

A French tradition is the frangipane (almond paste) galette des Rois, which families eat to commemorate the arrival of the Magi.
A token is hidden in the cake, and whoever finds it in his slice will be crowned king of the day and can, within reason, give funny orders to the rest of the family. He or her must also choose his consort and give her/him a kiss. This is a reenactment of the Roman Saturnalia, and was codified by the king of France in the 16th century.
Historically, the first tokens were flava beans, and whoever found it had to pay everyone a drink. Some people were just too stingy (or poor) to do so, and would discreetly swallow the bean before anyone could notice; the tokens were then made of porcelain to stop people from doing that. The first ones would depict Nativity scenes, but nowadays you find lot of different subjects, some people even collect them.
One last (funny) tradition is that the youngest of the family must get under the table in order to not be able to see who will get which slice, ensuring that if the token is made visible while cutting the cake, it will still go randomly to someone. Kids love being master of the table for that short while.

Yeah, well, my wife made this one, so if I said otherwise I'd really need the Bond to cut through the zip ties she'd use to string me up in the attic.  :D
Seriously, it is really good. She's a real chef, and anything made with almonds is just great in my book !

Thank you, fellas

She had been in the hospital for a month due to COPD, congestive heart failure, failing kidneys, and, as they found out near the end, lung cancer. Thankfully she was at peace at the end.
