DualForce Damascus
on: December 13, 2024, 09:02:08 PM
I noticed that the DualForce uses the same Blade as the CenterDrive .. yet with a slight Midification to the Frame/Handle it would fit a substantially longer Blade up to nearly 10cm (+2cm)

I also see abundant Offers with custom Damascus Blades for the various Leatherman, but NONE for Gerber

 So, the Question :
Which small Forge can affordably make a longer Blade for the DualForce ?

Still hunting for a DamascusBlade for the DualForce ..
the Spyderco Stretch 2 & 2 XL seem a good Fit

DualForce & CenterDrive EdgeLength is 76mm. Stretch 2 also has 76mm while the XL has 86mm EdgeLength. This would require a ca. 5mm CutOut in the Handle of the DualForce to fit the longer Blade, while even leaving the LanyardHoles intact. The huge Thumbhole would certainly transform the Gerber completely. Plus it will require a bigger Pouch. But hey .. longer and better Blade is certainly worth a Compromise

SpyderCo offers a Variety of Blades for the XL, from 150-450$ : VG10, H2, MicroMelt, K390, CruWear, Damascus

I will certainly get a XL and try this, but if You happen to have a Spyderco lying around, why not take it apart and beat me to it ..

If You want to max out the extra Space in the DualForce and do some more Work with a Dremel, have a look at the SpyderCo Police Stainless (Not the Police 4) . Adds about another 10mm

 Enjoy the Mockups

Blade of a Stretch 2 (Not XL).  Just for Reference regarding how to Dremel/Mill it down to fit the Gerber. Note that this shorter Blade will also fit the CenterDrive. Yet only One BladeVariant (VG10) is available (probably still Way better than the Gerbers)

Before You grind into a costly Blade of a XL, You can cheaply trial Your tooling on a CaraCara2https://www.spyderco.com/?s=Cara+cara. They can be found for 25$. Length and PivotArea are similar to the Stretch2 XL

Picture shows a Stretch2 (Not XL) vs CaraCara (v1 or 2). Scaling is just approximate

I was going to mention Byrd.  They're attractive blades without the cost of the Spyderco version.

Seems like this would render them pretty useless when using the pliers   :dunno:

Idea is great but like Steve said it would make pliers unusable if not heavily mod blade so pliers would usable. Dualforce handles comes close each others when using pliers.

I measured 2.4mm gap between blade and saw (closest to each other near pivots).

 5.2mm when pliers open.

Dual force widest point on blade is 16.7mm. so that blade could need bit trimming to fit so pliers would operate normally.
