I lost a flashlight this morning.  Finally turned up.  The little black corrugated piece is listed on the parts list for the weed wacker.  It is called a sleeve.  Took a real wizard to think up that name.  You can see it on the assembled photos for the tool.
If I had it to do over again, I would have chosen another Echo.  Best wishes.  G

I do not believe the black corrugated piece is a handle cover.   I do believe it is shipping material to protect the end of the shaft during shipping!

It should have been removed before the shaft was mated with the motor housing.

Looks like its supposed to stay there.   :dunno:

https://www.protoolreviews.com/stihl-fs-91-r-weed-eater-review/

See p.23, part #9.  I may serve the purpose of keeping the "loop handle" at least X distance away from the trigger.  Though I could be making that up.

That corrugated piece must be a newer thing.

Of course I have not been shopping for Stihl  string trimmers since I acquired mine 6 or 7 years ago. Maybe longer.

Shucks, I have been proven wrong! :dunno:

Always a first time i guess

Day 11

I did a little modification to my weedwacker.  See the black corrugated sleeve right behind the loop handle?  I'm not sure why the Stihl people put that thing on there like they did.  It is roughly on the balance point.  Good for carrying the tool, right?  Wrong.
The weight of the motor is above the centerline and the sleeve is loose on the shaft.  When you pick it up, the motor flips upside down.  Suddenly, at that.  I slid the loop handle and sleeve forward.  Then I wrapped duct tape around the shaft and forced the sleeve back into place.  Now it fits tight and you can't see where the tape is either.
The tool is running and working, but this fall I think I will take it back to the shop.  It is doing a couple of things that it shouldn't.  No point in taking it in now and letting them put it in a rack somewhere for a couple of months.  While the weeds are still growing.
Best wishes, G

It's been several years since I had a proper weed whacker, Gary.   The Boss Lady bought a cheap battery powered one from the Temu place.  Actually does better than I thought that it would.  She's got me using it to trim brush back from the gate.

More rain here today,  but the Boss Lady and I are just sitting out on the front porch this afternoon.

Day 11

Used the package openener quite a bit today. Last week we had out house reroofed and new gutters installed. Our house prior to the reroofing had California gutters. Not a good idea if you live in the Pacific Northwest. We ended up having to replace the facia and installed conventional seamless gutters. Today the Dime opened up quite a few boxes of leaf guards. I ended up spending the whole day installing them. When I got done I was a sweaty mess. I am now so sunburn I look like a lobster. Every time I walk by my boys room they laugh uncontrollably.  Anyway, a new knife showed up today. This time a Viper knives Sowbelly in Bocote. The wood looks absolutely stunning. Nice straight grain booked marked on both sides. I think this one maybe nicer than the Lionsteel Dom I just picked up.

Day 11

My wife is short. Often, when we go out, she complains about the straw being too long. Well, my dad made sure I knew how to handle that. When I was a little kid he would trim the end off my straw at McDonalds (probably so I wouldn't knock it over) and let me use it as a french fry scoop.

Here's to family, old and new, and having the multi to help them.

That is a great use of the scissors!

Did that too with my kids, but they grew quickly.

Margaritas.  Did you partake too?

Day 9: More 3D printer shenanigans. Got the thing back together, but I maybe shouldn't have un-did the set screws that hold the bed onto the jack screws. Looks like I'm going to have to adjust them and re-level.  I had originally thought it was a sensor failure, but it ended up just being FOD.

Day 10.

Pretty sure I had at least a couple of the GI Joe firefighters (actually, knockoffs, I think); but have no idea what happened to them. GI Joe recently did a new one in the Classified series. Finally got the SCBA on. Had to take the head off to get the mask on under the helmet.

Although--shrinkflation.... I seem to recall the actual 12-inch GI Joes being less than $20. This one was $35 at my local Walmart a couple days ago. Worth it though, as there are no others in 6-inch. Plus, a TON of accessories are included. Multiple axes, multiple sledgehammers, Halligan, SCBA, and a hydraulic spreader with working tips.

Day 11

Using the pliers to try and yank out a stubborn nail.  Didn't want you use a hammer for fear of damaging the drywall.

Day 12

Rain again.  Made it out between showers yestiddy and bought a few groceries.  I did risk a peek at the dreary domicile of Ms. Phoenix.  The white car is still there.
The day after the white car showed up, I experienced a time displacement dysphoria.  I was piddling around on-line watching something or other.  I checked the time.  It was about 9:30.  Watched parts of a movie or something.  Checked MTo.  Something after 10PM.  Then about 11:30, I got tired.  I just glanced at the clock in the corner of my display.  Turned off the compooter.  Went through the house.  Night time routine.  Looked at my kitchen clock.  9:20.  I said, "Well, the clock stopped.  I will dig out a new battery tomorrow."  Second hand was still moving.  Hmmm?
Just before I got in the sack, I looked at my Casio to see what time it really was.  9:21.  What happened to the extra 2 hours plus that I had spent?  I write some swamp gas on here now and then, but this really happened.
Before I woke in the morning, I had a little visit with my friend Charley.  Charley died last week.  There he was looking like he did years ago.  Very jittery.  I had forgotten how much nervous energy he had.  I asked him, "How is it like to be dead?"  Anyway, I started to ask that, then decided it might be rude.  Instead what came out was, "How do you feel?"  He said he felt great.  I think he knew he was dead, but making the best of it.  None of this might have anything to do with a white car at Ms. Phoenix's place.  Then again, it might.
Best wishes.  G

@ Gary -  I thought it was just this old codger that experienced such phenomenon!
It happens more frequently to me and I can not recall seeing a white vehicle in the neighborhood!

Just two nights ago, I went to bed at my normal time,  just past midnight, maybe 12:15am when I laid my head on the pillow.  A heavy sleep consumed my body.

I woke with a start, had to be out at least 2 hours, look at the clock and it is only 12:25am.

I check my phone, the same date, but fitness tracker reported I took the watch off at 10:45pm the day prior???

So good to know, not just me😱

I thought I was abducted, probed, and returned a few minutes earlier. 😱

Day 12

I mentioned just once, I enjoy a snack of salsa and chips occasionally!

[ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]

The small jars are my doing, the large jar has two more in the pantry from my son who was in ear shot of my statement above.

I have 4 adult kids watching over me.
I mentioned I enjoy corn dogs, and their mother would buy on occasion.  Last week a box of 40 1/4# corn dogs arrived straight from Costco.  Daughter says, “oh I saw these and thought of you!”

I have cherry salsa and corn dogs for a year.  Just wish they would deliver RibEyes too!😜

Corn dogs are the best!  We used to have a Corn Dog stand here, but it's been gone for awhile.

I will admit, never experienced a corn dog until meeting my wife before she became my best friend.

Fall FESTIVALS always had a booth or stand, selling freshly made corn dogs on site and had a variety of mustards you could slather on.

Thinking about it now, I think that was one secret indulgence she had, and would hide her stash.  My kids had no recollection of their mom eating any such item as a corn dog.   After retirement they appear at lunch time…🥹
