Milwaukee Fastback 6in1 Folding Utility Knife
on: February 11, 2025, 07:55:03 PM
Dear Fastback 6in1 utility knife owners (if there are any),

a bit weird question but how much blade play does your milwaukee have? I'm talking about the blade mount, not the opening system. I know little bit is expected but mine after 2 months can basically function as a rattle and it's a bit annoying. Not sure if it's normal or I should send it back... Or maybe it's not worth the hassle and I should ignore it since the blades are not falling out. I tried tightening screws but they stay solid. I'm just worried about it getting worse and blades getting dull too quickly (they definitely bump around).

Thanks for any tips and advice!

Welcome to MTO, bombsight!

The Fastback if one of my favorites.  Mine has a small amount of side to side blade play, and no vertical play.  I think that's acceptable for the price.

Mine rattles a little when open and closed, but for me that's not an issue.

This was when it was new.  Its not so clean now.  A 2-pack - one with the driver and one without - is $28 at Home Depot, so its not a spendy proposition to replace them.  Still, they should give you a lot of use before that happens.

Thank you for the reply!

Yeah, I'm not from the USA so they are not so cheap and easily available. In Poland it's hard to get even one for $28... Still not that expensive but not cheap enough to just toss it away and get a new one.
Not many people have them here, that's why I'm seeking answers in the country of origin.

Mine is loose in every direction. I'm pretty sure if each piece was like that, this model wouldn't be so popular. I guess I'll try sending it back to the seller and lets see what happens.

I even tried contacting Milwaukee but they basically said "go away, there is no guarantee for hand tools, bits, etc." How nice of them :)

What did you use before you bought your Milwaukee?  Utility knife, tape measure, pencil, screwdriver, etc. were always standard belt pouch equipment here.  I like the idea of the Milwaukee 6-in-1, but never felt it was a must buy item.  Welcome to the forum.  Best wishes.  Gary (IMR)

My whole life I carried a regular Swiss Army knife as my EDC. For some DIY and small repairs at home, I mostly used snap off utility blade. I'm not a blue collar worker or anything like that. Just a knife enthusiast.

I also don't see a Milwaukee 6in1 as a must buy, but I always liked the idea of it. It looks cool and I don't have to worry about blade damage :) Even though I love sharpening pocket and kitchen knives...

I EDC a Screw Pop utility knife (now called Ron's Utility Pocket Knife 3.0) for my box cutting needs.  It rides almost invisibly on my key chain.

Just to show how bad it is (or how crazy and exaggerating I am) I've made a short video. I don't know why I didn't start with that but better late than never.

Not sure how to share it so I've used the first link that popped up on google. Youtube seems like to much hassle.

Yeah, that's bad.  I wouldn't put up with it either.  I would probably put some tape on the blade if I had to use the thing to shim it up.  I heard the older ones were better.  I don't know.  Best wishes.  G
